This was a big hit on the Blue Lot so let's do it here.

Give me what you view as WVU's top five rivals. It can be what you think are the top five overall or what you personally have the most interest in following. While I'm interested on a personal level, I will tell you there is an important feature coming and this info will help me deliver that to you in the best way.

Whatcha got?

We really don't have 5. Pitt and that is about it. But for argument sake here is 5:

1. Pitt - The Arch Rival
2. Penn State - even though that's been gone for awhile
3. Maryland - every now and then we play them
4. Syracuse - one of the biggest pains in our side
5. VPI - for our "southern fans"

This is spot on. Unfortunately the list reflects the past.

Pitt and VT, Maryland, Syracuse...and my personal favorite, RUTGERS
I think Rutgers is going to be decent in football in a couple years. They've already put out a decent product in hoops, although I can safely state with confidence, that I can't stand anything out of New Jersey.

In this order...
Pitt
VPI
Maryland
Syracuse
Penn State (we probably thought of PSU as a rival but they thought of us as an automatic win.

Rutgers unbeaten in OOC this year by playing such power house teams as Temple, Syracuse and Delaware. To make a Bowl they will need 3 Big 10 wins. Not easy with their schedule.

I'm surprised CFE didn't list...Washington & Jefferson, Washington & Lee, Grove City, George Washington, and Naval Air Training Center.

1. Pitt - because of longevity and proximity if nothing else
2. VT - Our truest "rabid" rivalry.
3. Maryland - some really good games and indicator of how the season is likely to go.
4 - ? Interchangeable with many teams. Some from years past to maybe a contemporary one. Penn State some may say but Penn State fans wouldn't so its dicey from 4 on out.

Hard to have rivals if you don't play them every year. It takes time. We might get there with Texas Tech, K State, Iowa State, OK State, if the Big12 survives. Maybe some of the expansion candidates. It takes time, heartbreaking losses, taunting, smack talk, upsets, miracle comebacks, familiarity breeding contempt, etc. We had a lot of that with Pitt, Syracuse, VT, even Maryland and Rutgers. Would love to play Ohio State, Kentucky, Penn State, even Virginia and NC State with some regularity. Those aren't rivalries, but would always be interesting games that would attract a lot of viewers.

Pitt, VT, Syracuse, and Maryland I think are are 1-4 based upon history.

5th spot I can see as a question. Penn State was on the schedule a lot on the past, but not really a rival given how infrequently WVU won. Same applies to Rutgers on the other hand. The brief Big East 2.0 had WVU and Louisville pretty evenly matched, but that was a fleeting rival in the grand scheme of things.

I never went to East Aurora, but I know it's south of Elma. Spent most of the time between Orchard Park, Buffalo, and Elma. Ex had relatives there.

East Aurora is a nice town nextdoor to Elma...good place. Has a Main St with bars, shops, restaurants....

Lots of kids at WVU were from NY but very few were from Buffalo....back then you could cross into Canada without a passport, just a driver's license...I would take a caravan of WVU buddies back home, then cross into Niagara Falls....my mom would cook us a huge meal first and force us to over-eat, because she thought it would make us drink less....

Smart but did not work

19 to drink...gamble, and go to strip clubs. It was hard to beat for a ya young guy....

“Over Pitt”? The Pitt - WVU series will always be no. 1 with (I would say both schools) or a close second to Pitt-State Penn series for Pitt fans.

Good post brother. Personally I would like a 20 yr home and home in all sports with WVU and Pitt. Penn State has always been important to Pitt but they’re so arrogant it‘s almost impossible to want to have anything to do with them. Most Pitt fans would want Penn State on the schedule. Not me. Give me WVU every yr and ND every 3 yrs.
