I am not in on all the woke stuff by any means, but any coach of a team of african american athletes that would use that term talking with his team is eternally stupid and deserves to be fired.
The statement is usually “stay on the reservation.” I wondered if he meant to avoid reservation for PC purposes and landed on plantation. Out of the frying pan into the fire.

Racially insensitive words. Apparently saying "we need everyone to stay on the plantation" is a no no. The soft hearted wins again...
This, to me, is not like most of the ridiculous over-the-top wokeness we read about. And it’s made all the worse by the moment in time we are in. I am sure the coach was being thoughtless and not vicious. I mark it up to the same kind of stupid that asks a woman when the baby is due not realizing she had the baby six weeks ago. Not vicious, but only an idiot would do it. And this idiot once did it. A moment of humiliation. A lesson learned.

To get a reasonable perspective on how many black people view life in America read The Fire This Time. It’s an anthology edited by Jesmyn Ward. About 220 pages total.

While his intent is something to make note of, its the impact his words had on his audience that is the issue.

Its caring enough to understand how one's actions impact others.
I remain unconvinced that his statement hurt someone. As long as you guys keep putting up with this kind of stuff is going to get worse and worse.

Agree on first part. Again...im not familiar with the particulars of the situation.

Disagree on second part. Im not your enemy. "We" are not adversaries. We are both Americans trying to make sure the country is fair for everyone.

We have different viewpoints that deserve to be heard.

We have different priorities.

But we have the same wants...love of family, commitment to our community, hope for the next generation.

No need to manufacture hate where there is none.

And I think "cancel culture" is just another set of words to keep the world talking. The world will not go down the drain due to an overdose of accountability.

what do you think the outcry about mike Brown, jussie smollett, and George Floyd truly is?

manufactured hate. There is no evidence of racism in any instance yet that is the first thing many Americans, white and black, saw. The true hate is not in those instances but rather in how people, people like you, saw them.

truth hurts, I know.

Lol...if it helps my case I have found myself defending the state of West Virginia and its many great people against stereotyping many times.

I have to do so all the time for Baltimore and its residents too.

Hate and naive assumptions are bad from any direction.
No one needs to defend WV against stereotypes. WV and its people are light years ahead of Baltimore, a ******** city. Baltimore is a filthy, homeless infested, crime ridden violent drug infested ********. If you took a **** on the warf at the inner harbour, it would improve that city.

Baltimore schools are shittiest in America, churning out some of the dumbest kids.

Baltimore government officials are corrupt and self serving.

We do not want people from Baltimore moving to WV, that is all you need to tell them.

The fact that we can't read the mind of the offending officers at the moments of import doesn't dismiss the entirety of our history and the way it impacts our citizens today.

Your hypothesis that racism is all pretend is simply wrong.

And please...for the love of all things good and kind, drop the Jessie Smollett defense. Its such an insignificant situation it just doesn't deserve mention. Some idiot Hollywood c lister and his manufactured drama are not even a footnote in history.

I'm fairly certain that the high-rolling, all-powerful White republicans in Grant County are to blame for that.

What a stupid *** thing to say. I've never even heard that expression. Sounds extremely suspect on his part.
I think we’re close in age and I have also never heard this expression in my life, and I grew up in the south.

I’m also gonna assume the etymology of the phrase isn’t the best lol

Lol...same thing can be said about all the republican run southern states that are poor, poorly educated, incredibly unhealthy and take much more from the federal government than they give.

We could play this blame game all day both ways.

And the Governor of MD is a Republican.

Depends on the lens you view it. Through the lens of the law, what the nation is built on, you are supposed to look at them in vacuum. Trying to conflate them with systemic racism is nothing more than an attempt to excuse the behavior which led to their being killed. They’re dead because of their actions. Stop breaking the law.

I see very little difference between the ghetto and a trailer park.
Yes, you do. Stop acting like they are even comparable in crime levels.

And one very big difference is one area is laughed at, derided, receives negligible support from the fed govt, and is lectured to about how their failings have caused their poverty.

The other...a national outcry to improve the area by pumping millions into neighborhoods, thousands of foundations dedicated to them, all while the culture is also glorified in popular media.

Apparently you’re unaware of the byproduct of the opioid epidemic. Crime has skyrocketed due to it. I’m from WV, and I live in Baltimore. The only difference is skin color, behavior is the same.

ehh you can’t blame it all on opioids anymore or you’re pushing a false narrative. It’s been meth and has been for years.

I'm also from WV and lived near Baltimore for five years.

I am aware that those in the know tell people from Carroll and Frederick Counties that if they are traveling to the Inner Harbor to not rely on their GPS because people in Baltimore have to go out of their way to avoid dangerous areas and the GPS will not account for that.

You and I both know that there are areas of Baltimore that YOU will not drive through and absolutely places where you would feel nervous at a stoplight. And you and I both know that there isn't a place in WV that votes 90% GOP (as balmer does for the donkey) where you'd even think to be a victim of a crime.

The difference between Baltimore and the "crime-ridden" opioid regions of WV is that the crime associated with WV is confined to those caught up in the opioid game.

A teacher from Sykesville walking down the street in Baltimore is in quite a precarious position.

In Baltimore, crime finds you. In WV, you find the crime.

Drugs are drugs in my mind unless you’re talking about weed. Regardless, crack, coke, heroin, opioids, Meth, etc. It’s not unique to any one race. Hell, at this point, it’s not even unique to social class. It leads to crime and misery. Addictive drugs are the great equalizer.

I agree with the last part. There is a new gang thing going around where they’ve indiscriminately killed people in Fed Hill and across the city. Just random murders.

I guess in 2021. It’s their interpretation that makes them offensive.

My family is German. One time in gym class. Some idiot drew a squiggly looking swastika on my note pad just being stupid. They even asked if I hated Jews. I knew people were just being ridiculous when the occasional “kraut” , “pig” or other slur was thrown. Most people don’t even realize they’re being offensive. Or just don’t care.

But can we all just agree that it was the weirdest place to say “plantation?” You’d think being more outdoors or yard work would spur that word. Or something or another.

nonsense. What happened in the 1960s has nothing to do with whether officer chauvin or officer Wilson in Ferguson are racist or acted with hate filled motivations.

The fact that we can't read the mind of the offending officers at the moments of import doesn't dismiss the entirety of our history and the way it impacts our citizens today.
so If I ran a red light and crashed into a car driven by a black lady, our nation’s history dictates I was driving racistly? judging people today based on what happened decades and centuries ago is as ignorant as the racist pricks you detest.

Your hypothesis that racism is all pretend is simply wrong.
I haven’t suggested all racism is pretend. You must resort to lying so you can argue against something other than what I said. There is some racism in America. It is just not as prevalent as you pretend it is. If racism was as common as you hypothesize, you and the other sjws wouldn’t need to invent and inject racism into situations in order to whine about it.

You seeing race in every situation demonstrates the real racism in America.

And please...for the love of all things good and kind, drop the Jessie Smollett defense. Its such an insignificant situation it just doesn't deserve mention. Some idiot Hollywood c lister and his manufactured drama are not even a footnote in history.
why? Because it doesn’t fit your narrative? There is as much white racism in the jussie smollett incident as the is in the mike brown incident. Or George Floyd, breonna Taylor, rayshard brooks, and pretty much every incident black lives matters uses to excuse its looting and rioting.

funny you clowns don’t give a **** about real racism like Dylan roof or Ahmad Arbery. I guess those black lives don‘t matter.
