Racially insensitive words. Apparently saying "we need everyone to stay on the plantation" is a no no. The soft hearted wins again...
Semi-OT here, but how many of us get asked if we sleep with our sister, or if we have all of our teeth? Do the people who say that lose their livelihood immediately?

None of us are <insert something touchy feely> until all of us are <insert something touchy feely>, right?

As long as the world is free to call me an inbred toothless hillbilly with impunity, I call BS on all this very very very specific Woke garbage.

Just saying.

I'd hate to be in the public eye. I think we have all said things that were taken out of context and that were regrettable.

Can you imagine being in front of a microphone daily and having every word dissected. It's not a question of if you will screw up. Its simply a matter of when.

I know one thing.... If they ask about me having all of my teeth here in the Tarheel state, they end having a couple of theirs knocked out.

And WV is ALWAYS portrayed inaccurately and in the least flattering light...that is, in the rare event that WV is ever even represented in our culture (something other groups constantly complain about)

I bet a Californian would be surprised to know that Morgantown, WV has a Mercedes dealership and enough Starbucks that its residents are disappointed when we see another one pop up.

Hell we even had a place that sold Ferraris over on Exit 7.

I really don't want to get into a whole thing here but what has historically happened in a barracks is a whole lot different than the tragic legacy of plantations.

Barracks are built to build strength in people. Plantations repressed and chained people.

One could be comfortably referred to...the other not so much.
Yet Gov Andrew Cuomo is allowed to just apologize for raping three women and killing thousands of elderly people in nursing homes, and still keep his job. But a successful coach of young men has a mental fart slip of the tongue and he is facing firing. It is all ********.

I know that I am hearing the words “West Virginia” in the news more often... They used to skip West Virginia on weather broadcasts and just kind of gloss over that state on the map with a storm....

It is becoming more of a norm to have it mentioned and represented in the news and weather, in recent years.

He and his then-staff were implicated in the Adidas scandal, too, although as a private university they don't have to disclose what's in their NCAA letter, so this may just be Creighton looking for another way to get rid of him.

Give it time. My point was people attributing malice when it is not there. And that problem with a very small, very loud vocal minority in the West. Their baseline is interpreting everything the "opposition" says in the worst faith.

Do you think McDermont intended to harangue his players in coded racist language? Or do you think he simply wasn't aware of the connotations?

No...I dont think he intended to harangue his players.

I think he probably realized the negative connotation about .0327 seconds after the words left his mouth and he probably instantly regretted it.

I do find it unfortunate that he couldn't just look his players in the eyes, give a sincere apology, have that apology accepted and they could have kept it all in house and chalk it up as a learning experience for all.

I have no idea of the specifics of the situation.

That being said...its another example of our country's past sins coming back to bit us. This will continue to happen for a few more generations unfortunately. But if we can all commit to recognizing it and confronting it head on in good faith we will get past it faster.

If it was not for YOUR people wanting to cancel everyone and everything, your "sincere apology" program could have worked... but, alas, YOUR people want to kill everything and everyone that opposes them so... here we are...

These random what-aboutism just aren't helpful.

We can always find something to point at say what about that!

If you want to do that I'll give you the examples of Senator Franken and the previous president.

There are inconsistencies everywhere.

Lol...if it helps my case I have found myself defending the state of West Virginia and its many great people against stereotyping many times.

I have to do so all the time for Baltimore and its residents too.

Hate and naive assumptions are bad from any direction.

Woke/cancel culture is a cancer .... and like all fatal cancers they eventually eat themselves out of existence. When this begins to consume libs ........ it too will consume itself.

Damn right!

Note the fantastic Nike embargo from when they signed Kapernick!

Or how about those NBA TV ratings suffering from all that wokeness by the players making people not tune in.

Hell...the Trump crowd has canceled Fox News even.

Where will it end!?!?!

A lot...but don't reference plantations while asking black folks to buy into your program.
Do you really think he had racial intent? My guess is an emphatic NO. Therefore, it's another pussified example of deflecting the real problems.

Was that people refusing to buy Nike or demanding that Nike not be able to exist as a company?

Was that people tuning out or was that people demanding that lebron james and his ilk be cut, his endorsements rescinded, and his ability to earn money be completely quashed?

There is a massive difference between "taking your business elsewhere" and demanding that that business not be allowed to operate. And you're lying if you say both sides follow the same MO.

Take a poll from current and former players... they want him kept..keep...they say audios then you’ll know how they really feel. Pretty simple

they wanted him to coach last game that tells you something

For Creighton, probably best to fire him because this is going to hurt with recruiting. Do I think he’s a racist? No. Do I think he made a mistake? Yes. Do I think he deserves a 2nd chance? Absolutely but none of that matters when other coaches uses that against him with recruiting

While his intent is something to make note of, its the impact his words had on his audience that is the issue.

Its caring enough to understand how one's actions impact others.

One can be only offended if one is allowing him/herself to be offended. I look at the source, and the intention, and usually laugh or ignore. Not to hard to find an instant insult wearing my WVU gear in Pittsburgh.

Unfortunately most woke groups (pick your acronym) are eager to form a line, put out a collection plate to "help" others (but keep all the money for themselves), *****, march, shout, and create a victimized sub-group at the slightest perceived indignity. Pathetic.

An anecdote stemming from your examples.

I was fresh out of college and used the terminology “bang for the buck” in a pitch to some colleagues.

I was quickly pulled aside by the original “Karen” who told me that my comment was insensitive and rubbed her the wrong way since it had its etymology with prostitution and implied sex for money....

Anyway, after the lengthy history lesson, I told that old ***** to **** off !!
given the topic, I think telling her go F yourself might have been a better choice

Again, that's the point. You conflated the Right and Left in each one's participation in cancel culture.

The Right says to stop buying Nike, turn off pro sports, and cancel your Disney+ membership. The Left demands those who do not bend the knee to be unpersoned and for businesses that do not post a black square on their twitter to have their storefronts destroyed.
