Racially insensitive words. Apparently saying "we need everyone to stay on the plantation" is a no no. The soft hearted wins again...
Pretty soon they won’t refer to jersey colors as white and black... will be eggshell and charcoalRacially insensitive words. Apparently saying "we need everyone to stay on the plantation" is a no no. The soft hearted wins again...
True. Can't call it almond because then the nuts will be offended.....Pretty soon they won’t refer to jersey colors as white and black... will be eggshell and charcoal
Just think if he would have said "stay on base" or "stay in the barracks."I am not in on all the woke stuff by any means, but any coach of a team of african american athletes that would use that term talking with his team is eternally stupid and deserves to be fired.
Iowa... but, whatever...Just curious...is diversity training mandated by law in West Virginia?
See I have heard that phrase used before, but not the other oneOr stay on the reservation
While I agree, we all had that one coach in sports that was a hard *** and we knew damn well not to run to mom or dad. If you didn’t get to experience this, you missed out hahaI am not in on all the woke stuff by any means, but any coach of a team of african american athletes that would use that term talking with his team is eternally stupid and deserves to be fired.
I hear you and agree. That said given all that has gone on in last 16 months, just cant go there and expect to keep a public job like that.Just think if he would have "stay on base" or "stay in the barracks."
Would some of our country's finest been offended ? Probably, right ?
See I have heard that phrase used before, but not the other one
Pretty soon Tom Bodett won't be able to leave the light on for us.maybe they were referring to people who were staying in hotels![]()
but seriously... it's a dumb thing to say.

Everything is a dumb thing to say today in America if someone decides it offends them, ask Vic Koenig. I have no idea what is acceptable. The Muppets are being censored by Disney and Dr Seuss is no longer approved reading from the left.. However, Cardi B has the most heralded song in America about her wet Pu$$Y which is not allowed to be offensive to anyone.. Where does this BS end. You watch, this coach will lose his job over that comment because the left wants it that way. He may have chosen his words poorly, but he should get a slap on the wrist. That is all this deserves.

Or, "off the reservation", which people have probably used without even thinking of the connotation.Or stay on the reservation
Cancel culture at its finest...I hear you and agree. That said given all that has gone on in last 16 months, just cant go there and expect to keep a public job like that.
I had a band director back in the early 70's that would be on your hind parts hard if you kept screwing up. and if you started looking all pouty and butt hurt, he would look you in the eye and say, momma can't help you now! You can imagine what our sports coaches were like! Lol!While I agree, we all had that one coach in sports that was a hard *** and we knew damn well not to run to mom or dad. (not saying you did or didn’t either)
BatshitPretty soon Tom Bodett won't be able to leave the light on for us.
I got sprayed onetime by a black and white cat because I said I was drunk as a skunkWhich is said a lot
There are still plantations, orange, apple, smart thing to say? No but can you be a racist and coach college sports I don’t believe you canI really don't want to get into a whole thing here but what has historically happened in a barracks is a whole lot different than the tragic legacy of plantations.
Barracks are built to build strength in people. Plantations repressed and chained people.
One could be comfortably referred to...the other not so much.
Odd choice of words that wouldn't occur to me if I wanted to remind a group of people to stick together.
However, many colloquialisms have their beginnings in what today's twitter mob would deem unacceptable.
Does the phrase "riding shotgun" glorify violence?
Is "buttering someone up" insensitive to Hinduism?
Do people even know that "gipped" refers to a group of people? If you don't, it's that group of people that recent studies show had upwards of 75% of its 2 million population killed during the Holocaust, and whose genocide took until 1982 to be recognized by West Germany.
The meanings of words and phrases change over time, and the pathetic, indignant among us are so miserable and hate-filled that they attribute centuries old origins to today's language. They're so consumed by their own racism that they see it everywhere and project their bigotry onto others.

I think that the absolute furthest right can see that the choice of words was inappropriate and probably not the best decision in public especially around young black men....Ok...I've never heard anyone complain about those other examples...but do you see how a reference to "staying on the plantation" would be offensive to black people?
It literally refers to keeping slaves confined against their wills.
I'm not trying to be confrontational. I'm seriously curious if you can relate to how that would be offensive to black people?

They’re not looking for intent. They’re looking for anything they can use for their ultimate purpose. You may ask who they are. The people that want to divide this country.Give it time. My point was people attributing malice when it is not there. And that problem with a very small, very loud vocal minority in the West. Their baseline is interpreting everything the "opposition" says in the worst faith.
Do you think McDermont intended to harangue his players in coded racist language? Or do you think he simply wasn't aware of the connotations?
Agreed... odd and that ain’t just whistling Dixie.I disagree. I don't think that statement rises to the level for McDermott to be fired. However, I do question why would he say/use that term or word ... "plantation." I mean that's really off the beaten path. Its a word that simply wouldn't cross my mind regardless of who I'm speaking to. Is there any more context or circumstances to the situation? Just odd.
An anecdote stemming from your examples.
I was fresh out of college and used the terminology “bang for the buck” in a pitch to some colleagues.
I was quickly pulled aside by the original “Karen” who told me that my comment was insensitive and rubbed her the wrong way since it had its etymology with prostitution and implied sex for money....
Anyway, after the lengthy history lesson, I told that old ***** to **** off !!
The commies and hippies ?? And others who wear Patchouli oil ??They’re not looking for intent. They’re looking for anything they can use for their ultimate purpose. You may ask who they are. The people that want to divide this country.
