Wow. College programs with all of their resources and ability to isolate players are pulling the plug on things and this mope wants to welcome more people.

Florida case numbers declining every day. Viruses usually burn themselves out. I feel confident saying we will be talking about minimal cases of virus by October and be looking around wondering why pulled the plug on everything...

I agree. I'm here in South Florida where it is worst and my wife works in PTA clinic they get reports weekly and all signs are positive at this point.

We've had these posts on here since this started. How many times have people said, oh it'll be gone soon and life will come back to normal? Well I can tell you it isn't and truthfully none of us know when it will be. I had two family members, both showing symptoms and got it from an asymptomatic person, just battle this and told me it was beyond awful. One of them is still having difficulty breathing. It's beyond dumb to me to advertise kids to come play a game with all of this still happening. Of course cases will decline over time, they can only go one way after how large it's been.

Lol. "Mope".

Lets just say that the vast majority of us down here are glad this "mope" is running things right now.

People are tired of being scared, Keenan. This virus sucks but we can’t lose the whole damn country in the process.

Viruses burn themselves out.. mitigation measures.. herd immunity etc. Both work together. Bubonic Plague ravaged London for 18 months then went away.. they didn't cure it or have a vaccine or even know how to mitigate it. It killed and then moved on.. but it didn't kill EVERYONE..

Some people I know that live in Florida feel very differently, but to each their own and that's your right. I'm not even trying to make this political this is simply a statement about making intelligent decisions. If isolated college football programs are going to lose billions of dollars by not playing should we advertise to put kids that make nothing at risk especially by inviting even more people to participate from other areas? Makes zero sense to me.

Fair enough. What makes zero sense to me is uprooting this great country's way of life over a virus that is never going to go away. It will literally keep having the same effects its having now for decades to come. But, thats just me.

I hate it just as much as you brother. I'm fine with trying to return to do things, but if major college football programs and professional sports are having issues I don't see the reason to advertise more kids to come with amateur deals. That's all I'm saying. At some point we have to move forward, but some things we can move forward without for a while to help mitigate the risks. I hate that anytime you have an opinion it gets twisted (not saying you're doing this) but I know after hearing about what people I know had to go through as 30-year old adults I don't ever want to see a kid have to do it for a game.

I'm completely fine with college football players or the NFL attempting it if they are able to do adequate testing and everything else involved. I think that will work, fully support Neal Brown's theory.

Do you think these high school teams will do that? I don't know why this has become such a ridiculous take to some of you, I just don't want kids to be put in harms way especially ones that you're welcoming from other areas.

Comes down to lawyers. People getting sued and losing. It's always the lawyers and the threat of losing too much money

These kids have literally 0% chance of dying of this. If you can’t see it’s bigger than that then I don’t know what to tell you.

Just spitballing here, but why should any of us parents (WVU Alumni) send their kids back to WVU if COVID is such a severe risk? We are paying full tuition w/ room and board ( including Athletic Fees). He will live in a large dorm with all classes online. These are the same settings that our scholarship athletes are living in for the next semester/year.

These decisions go beyond sports...

How about the personal lives of these kids in places like California, Virginia Beach, etc.? You think they are are safer with a host family in Florida playing ball with a chance to earn a schollie and get an education or be on the streets in their neighborhood? Why do we assume the ‘shutdown’ is safe? It’s a really myopic and utopian view, in my opinion.

I’m well aware of that and that’s a decision you have to make. I can’t make that for you. I’m simply stating my opinion on high school football.

Nobody is forcing anyone to move to Florida, go to Florida, or play football in Florida. Let the people that want to coach and play do it

I still am struggling to reconcile major Universities pulling the plug on sports and the associated revenue and yet Governors continue to allow youth sports to be played.

Im not arguing either side is right only that the positions should be consistent.

Didn't youth sports start in most places a month ago or more? I haven't heard a single horror story involving them yet.

A brighter light is shining on them and one mistake will be magnified and that alone has administrations scared to do anything...mostly from the litigious perspective. It is much easier in this climate to do nothing than to move on.

I am cynical but I think the colleges are only bringing students back to campus because they all have massive bond and loan debt or private-public partnership contractual obligations due to the crazy construction and student housing expansions in recent years. They are going to bring everyone back to campus, take their housing fees for debt maintenance purposes and then send everyone home in a month and only refund pennies on the dollars for those fortunate enough to "only" have on campus housing obligations. The off campus folks are just completely screwed.

I am struggling to see the difference between colleges reopening and drawing kids from all over the region/country to their campus/town and a sports team travelling to another region to play.

If we are shutting down sports due to this concern (which is a valid concern), I don't see how colleges and universities can stay open when the face the same concerns.
