Retail rents plummet across New York City, as America’s glitzy shopping districts turn into ghost towns.
All told, the number of ground-floor leases available in Manhattan’s 16 retail corridors tracked by CBRE hit a record of 235, surpassing a previous high of 230 set back in 2013, the real estate group said.

You left out the most important part of the article. The real reason people are leaving and already were prior to COVID is the $10k cap on real estate taxes. Most people around here pay multiples of that.

Perhaps New York shouldn't tax its people so much.

Yep, we need Biden to overhaul the disastrous trump tax plan and reinstate many of the tax credits previously available. It will be nice to see all the trump **** disappear.

What tax credits are you talking about, specifically, did Trump make unavailable?

And Biden is going to raise taxes. He's a leftist.

Wait, so now you’re advocating for higher tax credits? Effective additional tax cuts for specific states? Interesting.

Blue state welfare. Residents with super huge real estate taxes were able to write it off on their federal returns.

Our real estate percentage is not that high. Its lower than OH and RI for example. And the services we are paying for are more than in other states...our schools at least where I live are excellent. The issue is that property values are high, which in and of itself is not a bad thing. If you have an expensive house, you are going to pay more in taxes. Trump just dropped in the $10k cap to be a dick to blue states like NY, CT and NJ for not voting for him.

No you aren't. The exact opposite is true. The higher your income the more likely you are to itemize and take deductions, which from a real estate perspective is limited to $10k.

You said the same thing in a different way. It was still a benefit to blue state residents with high taxes, high wages, and high real estate values that noone else partook of. Those cities and their behavior patterns hurt the rest of the country.

And with that, people are still wanting to move from the overtaxed state. So raising them will make it better?
Not raising taxes...raising amount you are allowed to deduct on your taxes. Right now if you pay $40k/year in taxes you are only allowed to deduct $10k instead of the full $40k, which you were allowed to do before they instituted the next tax law. There was no financial reason to do that. Trump has not reduced taxes for the rich. He simply did it as a screw you to NY, CT and NJ, and other blue states where the property values and therefore the taxes are highest.

real estate taxes are local correct? and yea he set national policy just to be dick...nice...

NY is one of the few states (if not the only state) that force people who work there to pay their income tax rate and not the state they reside in. They are in big trouble and they are even trying to force residents who leave to prove that they do not have to continue to pay their taxes to NY...yea...gotta love NY...

Never mind. You replied to an ignored post. I thought you were replying to one of mine. But the eliminate of the SALT deduction was not a benefit to high property value states. And what behavior patters are you referring to? I can easily argue the low income states are welfare states dependent on the blue. Our federal tax dollars pay for most of the poor states ****, which they otherwise would be unable to afford.

Hey, baldy: Your stupidity knows no bounds. Why should we taxpayers in middle America have to pay more in federal income tax than your libtard friends in New York and California? It's not our fault that libtard Governors in big blue states have drilled their residents with huge state taxes. The deductions for state income tax paid were correctly minimized, as we shouldn't be subsidizing rich New Yorkers and Californians, but you're too dense to understand this reality.

Yes. Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean its not correct. Its very easy to see out of the 50 states, that the overwhelming majority of high earning/high property value/high tax paying states are blue. So, you can very easily see primarily affects the states that didn't vote for you.

People need to vote for Trump just so Biden doesn't give AOC, Warren, and Sanders a job that causes even more damage.

That's what you came up with? Glad you put a lot of effort into it....Maybe it was a way to tax the rich so that the middle class could get a tax break...or maybe it just made common sense not to allow for local taxes to be effectively reimbursed by the federal gov? Personally, I think they should do away with real estate deductions all around...why force people to buy something to get a tax break?

State income taxes...100% no...they are the highest (top 5%) in the country. Federal Income taxes...I would say it's a mixed bag....while blue states may generate more wealth...it is also true that a lot of their wealth is generated off of the production of the red states. Do the investment banks only manage the money from blue states? How about Pharma...do these companies only receive revenue from other blue states? It's a global market...and a global supply chain...you can't just take the taxes paid from blue states and not recognize that some of those profits (taxes paid) are generated away from those states...

Now that the filthy rich in the big blue states aren't able to deduct some of the paid state and local income taxes on their federal income tax returns, they're finally carrying their own weight. I'm enjoying the demise of your fake home town, and hope that you are, too. You hate Trump, but love DeBlasio and Cuomo? This speaks volumes as to your level of intelligence.

Carrying our own weight. LOL. NY, CT, NJ and most of the other blue Northeast states have been carrying the financial weight of the country for some time. How's OH doing? Still leading the country in deaths from Oxy?

"The biggest givers in our latest report, based on 2018 data, were New York, which paid in US$22 billion more than it received; New Jersey, which paid $12 billion more; Massachusetts, which paid $9 billion more; and Connecticut, which paid $8 billion more than it received." https://www.usnews.com/news/best-st...more-to-federal-government-than-they-get-back.

I do hate Trump. But as I've said on here many times, I don't necessarily like Cuomo. He's OK. DeBlasio is a disaster. So, you're barking up the wrong tree.

Ironic post is ironic. You take an irrelevant shot about drug deaths in Ohio, then post that Cuomo is "OK." Tell that to Janice Dean and all of the other family members who lost relatives in nursing homes, as Fredo's older brother stuffed COVID-19 positive elderly patient after patient back into nursing homes. There are gallons and gallons of blood on Cuomo's hands, as his state's death rate continues to be multiple times higher than any other state in the country.

I didn't vote for Cuomo, and we got the worst of it before anyone knew what the hell was going on w/ the virus. Now we are going much better than the rest of the country.

So, NY PAYS $22B more than it gets from the Federal Government. OH GETS $34B more than it gives. Looks like OH and is sucking off the federal government tit, and NY is footing the bill. So, you're welcome for the welfare handouts.

Ha ha. I don't live in Ohio, dipsh!t; I've lived in West Virginia for 30 years. But thanks just the same as I have multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins who are NY teachers, and are overpaid (especially, in retirement), courtesy of your outrageous real estate taxes.

Climate task force....More government waste of taxpayer money. Just another way for leftists to fleece America and its citizens. How these leftists voters are so blind to reality is mind numbing.
