John R Lewis........when is this going to stop?..........when all buildings named after white people are renamed?.......I've said this before and I;ll say it again........take names and nicknames off of EVERYTHING........buildings. roads. sports teams etc.........We are not Mountaineers anymore....might offend the flatlanders....we are now just West Virginia University.......maybe the "Washington Football Team" isn't such a bad idea afterall.........and can you imagine what will happen to all the GPS sites when names really start changing?:joy:

not about this in particular......about the whole name change issue.....the local high school was Robert E Lee and changed last year to Staunton High School which is fine with me......but don't rename the place after somebody else...and before you go there I admired Mr Lewis and his willingness to speak out and do it respectfully, even if I didn't agree with him.....I guess 100 years from now somebody will find some dirt on the late Mr Lewis and then they'll take his name off too......this whole thing is just political correctness run amok....hell I'm 1/8 Cherokee...I've got more reason to ***** than ANYBODY[banana]

I think we're pretty much in agreement, but the initial post came off as being upset that Robert E Lee's name was taken off. I'm fine with just numbering the f'n schools
he was pardoned so not a traitor. And his tactics are covered in military school along with Stonewall Jackson. He may have,lost the war, but that was a numbers game, not an incompetent leader result

to be fair to everyone who thinks a name belongs on a building, why not make a rule names of schools and even what statues are displayed on government grounds, be replace, say every 5 years, with whatever the people vote on?
opportunity is there for democracy to work as well as give concerned people limited to the community these buildings/status reside input through the rule of law.
