Looks like name is going bye-bye. So, Indians, Seminoles, Chiefs or anything else offensive, I expect are next in line.
My family was raised in Hurricane. I'm the first of five siblings, and we all played sports growing up. In fact, each of us played every single season of sports growing up, through midget league, middle school, and high school. Of the five of us, I am the only one that is not up on the wall for being all state in one or more sports.

I've always been damn proud to be called a Redskin, and I honestly don't understand why people in this day and age would take offense to that.

I'll have to go through ancestry.com, I guess to see what we are, but I'm under the impression that I am of German-Irish descent. I've been pretty proud of that over the years because my thinking is that not only are most of my folks Catholic, but they probably also have a cast iron liver. If you want to call me a potato eating kraut, have at it.

In this day and age, people are too busy being offended by anything and everything to be proud of their heritage.

Except every study done with Native Americans says they support the name. In fact many of their high schools have the same name. This is an argument that only middle age white men get upset about. You know the ones that like to control the world because only their opinion matters. Yeah those guys. The most recent survey was done last year.

I could care less if it’s changed or not tbh. But my understanding from those I had spoke too they didn’t appreciate the name. I’m sure when the name was created it was with admiration because the American Indians were tough AF. If Native Americans overwhelmingly support it then so be it keep the name but to many it has always been a racial slur

It was reported by the Washington Post so he does have a point there. Cal Berkeley vs WP. Epic!

Yeah, this one is more about homerism than political bias, but they all do it, on both sides, and I'm fascinated by how uncritically and eagerly people accept polls that support positions they already hold. Read the methodology, people! This is especially important if it supports your existing biases. In fact, you should be most skeptical of those. Doubt is the key to knowledge.

I was changing the name to that in your honor.
Now, I am honored!! Really missed Fantasy Camp, hope they can somehow make it work in the fall. Once, basketball practice starts, little chance for this year.☹☹

Call them the fighting whities and they'll be my new favorite team and I'll buy all the merchandise.

  1. You guys are a hoot. Seeing what you rage over but don’t juxtaposition against other people complaints is fascinating. I can see people having a fair position if Seminoles or Chiefs were being replaced. But Redskins? Redskins? Come one. Any reasonable person could see that as being problematic at best. It was/is literally a racial epithet. I live in DC and nobody I know is feeling assaulted by a name change conversation.

They could also change the logo to be a sunburned white dude. That'd be awesome, actually. I'm thinking the guy from operation with a bright red skin and a beaming down sun above.

those other names aren’t racist like redskins is
It’s all ******** diversion..... changing the the name doesn’t change a ******* thing. The root cause issues remain and will until the principles fix them.

As opposed to “young people of color” telling everyone they are wrong for feeling and acting the way they do. We get it, you want everyone to continue paying for sins of our great great great grandfathers and give in to every demand of the SJW community.

No, how about we start with something really simple, like treating everyone as human beings.....you know, how god created all of us....

Man, there are three fingers pointing right back at you every time you point a finger at something else.

The same far left radicals saying their side is the only one that can speak about, well, anything, comes on here and doesn't disappoint either.

You think you are hurting my feelings by calling me a far left radical.....but you are very consistent with your words and beliefs....we know who you are...

Congratulations on describing the machinations of the "white privilege" mythology to a tee.

Mythology??? My brown wife and step kids would disagree with that.....but hey, says the eccentric looney toon always dropping cryptic hints of impending world doom and destruction.....so I will take you at face value...

Actually no. George Preston Marshall was the founder of the team, he was a supporter of racial segregation and was the last owner to integrate AA’s onto his roster....forced by the Feds. Oh, and he was born in Grafton, WV

I’m sure he has a lot of fans on here...Fox News spin-away boys....I’m listening.

Leave the name alone and change the Logo to a Beet...problem solved!
How about doing nothing? If anyone thinks a person of color is bettered by a goddamed sports name change, then you are a shallow no-nothing. DO SOMETHING and then talk to me

George Preston Marshall is buried in Romney... At one point his monument outside of RFK was going to be moved to Romney but nobody would foot the 30k bill....

All the haters should keep in mind Marshall was a typical West Virginian.. born poor, worked hard, made a fortune in the laundry business in the 1920s. Without Marshall DC has NO pro football team (whatever their name is). Yeah he didn't like blacks... Most West Virginians didn't in that era (and many many still don't).

This is not exactly true. The poll you're referencing found that 9 out of 10 don't care. Presumably at least partly because they've got bigger **** to deal with.

That poll is also flawed because it relied on self-identification, which people may or may not be honest about. It also over-sampled by framing the question as "Do you have any Native American blood?", which how many Americans have some family legend about a great-grandma who may or may not have been half Cherokee? Those aren't exactly the people you need to worry about on this issue.

A recent survey of people who live on reservations and actively participate in ritual and political Native life found that over 2/3 find the name highly offensive.
interesting, I have never seen these stats, can you find those and post them?

Whether or not a poll supports my biases has nothing to do with the accuracy or validity of the poll. If the poll supports the pollster’s bias that could be a problem. But the method is sound the bias is irrelevant. Also, doubt itself is a bias.

As a native West Virginian, this is insulting as hell.

@Vernon how do you allow this guy to continue to post?
