It's easy to Monday morning QB the mask issue. All one has to do is go back to the day Trump formed the task force (before the WHO declared it a world wide emergency) and one would find that a) 3M was already upping production, and b) providers were already starting to hoard up available supplies.

Two weeks ago I would have been able to order an ample amount of n95's from my supply house. Today we can't. Today we know that any available supply is going directly to health care providers.

I don’t believe that my word is subject to a relative existence of truth.

I just want to make sure I understand what you said here. Are you saying there is such a thing as absolute objective Truth that binds your word, or your word is absolute objective Truth that binds YOU? Nothing is "relative" about either interpretation?

Explain?

On reaching a deal with 3m for millions of masks. Need more, but this is where I thought the “great deal maker” might shine in the crisis. Good to see him getting us a win.

One of my biggest disappointments is with 3M’s greed. Anyone know how their practices were discovered? I’m guessing a whistleblower or two reported them.

I don’t know how this administration can be criticized until I know how and when 3M was exposed. Shame on 3M.

The masks one can make on their own is not sufficient for medical professionals working on the front lines. I made my own mask following the Surgeon General's video and it worked well going to the grocery store this past weekend. We have 2 N95 masks we received from our doctors due to our health issues but I gave mine to my son so he could pick up my mother in law at the ER after a fall and a broken leg and taking her to doctor's offices for her immediate medical needs. Making one's own mask doesn't compare at all to these N95 masks.

3M is doing what all companies will do unless forced. They are operating in the best interest of their shareholders. This is why the Defense Protection Act needed to be put in place and enforced to the maximum limits of the law in February at the latest.

Yes, people can get upset at individual companies but that isn't a fully informed decision.

Made possible by opening up trade, not isolating. Hmmmm. Who'd a thunk it.

3m had a big deal with China. Putting a custoner first put them in a position where their business goals put them at odds with their country.

This is the heart of the fundamental discussion I had a week or so ago with a hard-core right winger. He hates government and worships private sector for everything. I tried to convince him, when it comes to a pandemic and we desperately need "a group of people" to act in the best interest of the American people and their health and well being, I certainly would trust a government agency who's mission it is to protect the health and well being of people (like the CDC and the FDA) instead of a private company who's main focus is on profit and the health and well being of individuals then is subject to the greed of a company seeking the highest bidder and not necessarily the overall interest of the health of Americans.

huh? The intent is discussing the proclamation of Trump and a poster saying congratulations for a deal reached with 3M. Other than personal attacks on me by others which I won't respond to, what has gone offrail until your whine?

You got lit up because of this....

Almost 2 months late. No celebration warranted for doing the job, especially for those already affected.

Yes, it was. You expect everyone to share the same opinion and cheerlead? Ain't going to happen. Decent conversation is being had including yourself on the subject. Unfortunately, a few others can't participate with any class whatsoever but those posts and people need to be put on ignore or just ignore them voluntarily.

Have a good day.

Let's all be objective here and take off partisan hats for a moment (I know many of you can't do this, your mouths are locked on trump's cock like a ***** in heat locked on a dog's cock).

Negatives about trump on the Covid-19 response:
Mocked it in the beginning for several weeks, calling it a hoax, holding rallies.
Dismantling the Pandemic Team at the CDC.
Not ensuring supplies were sufficient to respond to a pandemic.
Not ensuring a contingency plan was in place for respirators.
Not ensuring a contingency plan was in place for additional hospital beds.
Took way too long to fully grasp the seriousness of the pandemic, evidenced by saying he hoped America would be back to normal by Easter.
Didn't invoke the Defense Production Act until 2 April.
Not encouraging the public to take this seriously enough.

Positives about trump on the Covid-19 response:
Got FEMA involved, which in turn asked for assistance from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in setting up additional treatment facilities.
Encouraging Congress to pass legislation for supplemental appropriations.
Relying on the expertise of Dr. Fauci.

If this were left up to the government our country would be in DEEP **** right now. Private business, profit motives and ingenuity will be the real heroes that mitigate long term damage to us. The DPA is great when a situation arises similar to 3M when their contractual obligations put them at odds with the overall needs. They can get around their cobtracts because the govt is forcing them to act.

I wish Dr. Fauci had not downplayed the seriousness of the virus early on like he did. President Trump may have called called for more immediate actions.

Good morning, think I'll address you two out of the sordid mess this thread has become.
3M after DPA dictates they must continue export to Canada/ Central America under humanitarian grounds...well ok not really but....
Reality check shows that most of the pulp needed for the N95 mask comes from western red cedar and the Harmac Mill located in Nanaimo BC. Whoops! We better get a deal done here stat, so EVERYONE can get the masks required....Harmac is now double shifting and production can go up at the US facility as a result. Co-operation is a wonderful thing....
Hope you are all doing well given the current circumstances. Take care.

Although “eliminating the pandemic team” is a talking point mischaracterization of what happened, the restructuring of the NSC under Trump dissolved the Biodefense and Global Health office of the NSA. Bolton also removed the advisor charged with heading up the Biodefense strategy in 2018 and folded his responsibilities into several peoples portfolios. None of which were appointed to the Coronavirus task force.

So, the NSA office Obama created in response to the Ebola threat - Trump’s restructuring dissolved.

Doesn't seem to have a very positive affect or our ability to recognize global health threats and implement our Biodefense. Maybe Obama created the office for a reason?

Well...I finally started this Formula 1 series on Netflix! Pretty damn good imo after three episodes in from first season. I have to negotiate alternating nights with the wife on what to watch, she's all over this Tiger King mess lol. I have to admit, that's a train wreck hard to keep my eyes off...
Other than that, I was really pulling for the blue marble in it's race the other day, only to end up disappointed
Ah, I am gonna have to go back through the archives next and re watch some races from awhile back... I have a few from the old CART series stashed away I'm definitely gonna pull out.
You?

Not encouraging the public to take this seriously enough.
  1. He called the Democrats reaction to it and their plan to use it for political purposes the “hoax”. Proven 100% correct because Pelosi is standing up a committee to try and dog him until the election.
  2. Complete mischaracterization of reality.
  3. 6 years of Obama doing the same. Same with Cuomo in NY. But Trump does also own some of this. Just be clear on where it started. You also left out the part where he restructured the procurement process to eliminate the red tape response.
  4. Followed the CDC SOP. Looks like the CDC SOP wasn’t sufficient. Govt efficiency at play.
  5. He began addressing it long before the left did, as evidenced by them calling him a racist for instituting a travel ban from China. The media in general had a laissez faire approach as well. Look at the Dem debates in Feb, not a single question regarding this, the Dems weren’t taking it seriously either.
The DPA only needed used to assist with companies getting out of existing contracts. They weren’t trying to not help. Jesus.

Intend to watch that one too... as a Ford guy I look forward to it....
I can remember years back here in the local American LeMans series (2008 I think) they entered a GT-R loosely styled after the original GT40 that beat Ferrari from 66-69...
Of course that car was soundly trounced by both Ferrari and Corvette that year....ah the good ole days lol.

Watch it- Damon and Batman did really well. A lot of detail about old school racing, detail about car design - and a good look at Carrol Shelby and Ford executives. Great soundtrack, cinematography- solid comedy relief - well done movie, imo
