I've already told you what the charge would be, abuse of power. If he uses official channels to benefit himself - in this case the claim is that he was leveraging military aid earmarked by Congress to gain bad press on a potential political opponent. The Dems have laid the groundwork of an extortion charge in their line of questioning so far. Without someone flipping, someone being Guilliani(sp?), Perry, maybe Mulvaney or someone else in the middle of this, I'm not sure you can make it stick for the Senate trial, assuming it gets to that.
Here's my line of thinking on this. If he thought Biden was dirty, why was there no investigation of this U.S. citizen being done by any U.S. agency? Biden is not protected by any executive privilege now. If Hunter did something illegal in taking the job or accepting money from a foreign company, he's brought that money into the U.S. He's fair game for prosecution for sure.
I'll add that I think it was unethical for Hunter to accept that job, but probably not illegal. I also think it was unethical for Hunter to fly on AF2 with Dad to go talk business with people in China. Again, it's probably not illegal. Similarly, I think you could make an argument in Trump's defense that what he did was simply unethical. I certainly think it was unethical. Does it rise to something that should have him removed from office? That's subjective in my opinion, but impeachment is usually at least somewhat subjective, i.e. political.
The fallacy of your argument Mule my good man is not supported by the facts. Trump got NOTHING for his so called "abuse of power". The aid to Ukraine was already flowing and was fully authorized. It was not held up by any demands from Trump, but simple bureaucratic red tape! Trump asked for nothing in exchange for the aid, and regarding the new Ukrainian President simply asked him to continue an investigation which already been started into corruption in his own country, and to the extent, what if any in their attempts to disrupt our elections.
Despite that, no new investigation was ever initiated after Biden went over there and threatened the Ukrainian government with loss of aid that had already been appropriated by Congress under the Obama administration and he said they had six hours to lose the money unless they fired a prosecutor who was investigating the Ukrainian company his Son was hired for with zero experience!
What was Biden's interest in having that prosecutor fired, and why was it tied at all to US aid? Why are you not as interested in that as you are in something Trump didn't do? (ie: demand a quid pro quo like that?)
Trump demanded nothing, got nothing, did nothing, (except supply Ukraine with powerful Defense weapons Obama had denied) and expected nothing else from Ukraine except for them to "do the right thing" and investigate corruption in their own government.
Sorry my good friend, but we just totally disagree on any "abuse of power" on the part of Trump or anything else. However, you are a stand up guy to at least answer the question honestly to the best of your ability.
Appreciate your feedback.
