What happened to general math ? Not all are college bound . Only time i ever stepped foot in a college was to replace the boiler or chillers, well now to get my daughter. Im already at 140,000 $ , not bad . She will make the 3rd college degree i pay for . Guess my rant is more about, stop acting like we are all the same with the same abilities..need to focus more on history.
They still teach trades in most counties but it seems like schools move kids toward college prep. Lots of great jobs out there for welders, fabricators, electricians abd hvac techs.

But those kids taking the tech classes still have to take that stupid standardized test on Geometry and upper level maths. It's pointless to do so.

You are 100% correct! I learned most of my math skills after high school , in my apprenticeship, math that pertained to my trade . The general math i took in high school prepared me for basic functions that i do quite well , shop class & home economics taught me more useful math , then economics taught me financial math. 20 years later i forgot most of it & use a calculator. I had very good down to earth teachers & God knows i was a handful....

Why is it pointless? Do you think Welders and fabricators dont use algebra and geometry? I really hope you are not a teacher.

They need to learn the math that will get them ready for their jobs. Have you seen a standardized test recently? Not much "basic" in it. It's more for those preparing for higher level maths in college.
