Teams are too talent up front to just run over them especially when you don't have an OLine.

You can call it flag football or you can call in modern football.
NFL teams don't really run the ball like they used to. It is because it isn't the best way to attack a defense. Best way is to get one on one matchups and take advantage of them.

Trust more what you see than what you hear.

The answer to this season was shown to you in the spring game. The offense struggled then also and that shouldn't happen - at least as bad as it did.

What it reminded me of was 2012's spring game. If you recall, we had just come off the Orange Bowl and the GSA trio were going up against the second team defense. It looked like we had just picked up from the Orange Bowl - 3 or 4 plays and a TD. That was expected.

Then, out trotted the second team offense against the first team defense - 3 or 4 plays and a touchdown. Uh-oh. When the same scenario was repeated on the second series, I knew then it was going to be a long year and the lofty rankings weren't going to last.

The answer to both was the same even though the scenarios were different - a loonnng season if you were looking closely enough.

You were not alone. I thought the new coaches would be able to install their system quickly and with confidence. And that we had enough good players to at least field a good starting 22. And I thought we would be able to run the ball and that AK would at a minimum be effective in the short/intermediate passing game.

But our talent losses were very big and our weakness has been exposed. If AK can get some protection and we can become a decent passing team, we could get a few W's. But I drank the Koolaide too. I have noticed we are still trying to run the ball. DH would have abamndoned that about half way through the JMU game. Agree that its going to be a long year, maybe two.

Why stop there? Play to our strength and run the wishbone. Get Johnson from GT (ret) in as a consultant. With our OL we’ll be killin’ it by the time the B12 schedule starts.

I think most of us hoped and yes prayed for a little better.
The thing that gets me is that both games at times showed nice holes to run thru, but there was always a LBer waiting, standing flat footed, untouched, waiting for our RB in the middle the hole. McCoy must feel like a soup bone at the local animal shelter.
Kendall and the running backs will not survive this for a season.Sure would like to see a h back/fullback in the backfield leading the way. Have we completed a pass to a to TE ?

One play said a lot to me. The Protection broke down, AK began to scramble, a decent gain seemed possible then out of nowhere he made a desperate pitch to a surprised back. A decent gain turned into a 3 yard loss.

Summary poor blocking, poor decisions and potential squandered. And so it goes.

You have to beat teams inside the red zone.
Clemson vs Alabama in the NC. Bama put up the same amount of yards as Clemson but Bama had trouble in the red zone while Clemson did not
Both were considered good defenses but both were torched between the 20's. Difference was like I said red zone efficiency.


The only thing that makes a defense look good is bad playcalling and bad QB play.

Everyone complained about Dana and his inability to play defense. That is football now unless you want to play sorry teams that can't move the ball.

Teams with close to 8-10 future NFL players are getting torched now.

The problem with media today is we have become accustomed to hearing what we want to hear. It started with cable news Fox,CNN,MSNBC and it has spread from news sports, Home design etc etc etc. I remember an article a few weeks back on here that talked about the Oline getting better. The article might have been right but there was no elaboration on what getting better meant. We could have been god awful in the spring and just went to being awful in the fall. Which technically is an improvement. They also don't really tell you how you stack up against the rest of the field. Most of the prognosticators that I give the most credence to predicted that we would struggle in 2019. I hope for the best but I was prepared for the worse. What were seeing is what I expected.
