He took it for 2 reasons...

1. WVU didn't want him and didn't try to keep him.
2. Holgorsen wanted gone because he knew he would be fired at the end of this season due to losing record.

1- WVU wasn’t going to match his asking price.....everyone knew that going into this. And besides everyone knew DH wanted to back to Texas...so why bother?

2- you’re making wild assumptions

So what the hell would you do if you knew your boss didn't want you working there and wasnt going to try and keep you there?

Sounds like taking a new job is the obvious thing to do.

Agree, but he also knew what was coming. He wanted guaranteed money...wherever it was coming from was secondary

Howard had better...everything here. This line is horrid and the WRs are adequate at best.

I would not be that generous to the WRs. As Brown said in the post game, the offense is terrible. I like Brown, you can tell in the presser he is upset but as he said, he is disappointed, not discouraged. He knew and anyone with a brain knew what this was going to be like this year. It just sucks to go through it but it is necessary. The future looks great.

Don’t think that’s fair...

The WRs are dealing with two career backups throwing passes to them...that’s only going to go so far.

Howard wasn’t the greatest passer we’ve ever seen...but he was better than what’s out there now

Someone mentioned that if Dana was here we would win 7-8 games this year. I think this game probably disproves that by a large margin.

Would the offense, especially the run game, be better? Probably. But not by much. This is the offensive line that was going to start no matter who the coach is. Right now, they just aren't very good as a unit. Individually, yes. But as a unit - no. Seemingly, its a different player breaking down every play. Not much any coach can do with offensive line play this bad.

However, it must be said, the defense is better. They have made adjustments at halftime - that rarely happened with Gibson, with shutouts pitched in the second half of both games. Still, a couple of big holes there are what's keeping this defense from being really good.

Dana is making the same amount of money this year at Houston then he would have at WVU.
Did Houston offer him the job then? If so, what was their offer?
If Houston was really his goal he could have inquired about the job back then. He was trying to get a contract extension from wvu last season. If he returned to wvu he had 3 years remaining on his deal. The Houston contract pays him exactly the same amount that he would have made at wvu. The big difference is if he is terminated at Houston any time before the end of the 3rd season he gets the entire value of the contract. Its called job security.

Can't believe all the ******* DH lovers are jumping with glee over WVU's beat down. Team was recruited by DH...and not very well obviously. Screw him and all his fan weenies.

Those words are synonyms.

Context. English comprehension is a standard class, you know. He is disappointed in the final outcome of the game - he wanted to win. But, he is not discouraged because he team is accepting his system and his coaching. The shortcoming is in execution not heart. I am sure you can get the idea now, or are you one of those that enjoy life the same way Buck does?

Thanks for that unneeded explanation. What I stated was fact whether you like it or not.

Not really, my English challenged friend. Language is more than words, none more so than English. Context is everything. Had you even deigned to watch the presser, I would not have to school on you a subject you think you know.

Based on what? The current recruiting class is ranked 54th nationally. Neil Brown is not a great enough coach to win without recruiting better.

Idiot "fans" chased Holgorsen off. They put pressure on the AD(s) from day one--never wanted him here and made it loud and clear.

How many times did people post "anyone can step in and win as many games here"?!?

Holgorsen saw the libel and disrespect, couldn't recruit as he tried because of all the negativity spread around the airwaves and social media, and saw a dwindling support from the AD--he really had no choice. Why would he stay where people would rather have someone because he was born in appalachia than able to coach a power 5 team in the toughest conference in the country to win?

Now we see the results.

and the same that bashed 10 win seasons, are now championing getting blown out by a Missouri team that gave up 18 straight to Wyoming the week before in a loss.

64 yds rushing in two weeks for a P5 team illustrates well the coaching ability on hand.

Every program has idiot fans. Hes been in the business long enough to know that, its baked in.

If idiot fans could chase coaches off, none of the universities would have any coaches left.

You know buck is happy

Not happy at all. This is terrible. Just as I and others told you it would be--but oh nooooo, you "football minds" knew better---so you pushed out one of the winningest coaches ever for this.

Who knows when this will be corrected.

Not true at all, and especially not true where the vocal anti Holgorsen crowd has been at it night and day and were attacking the AD to not renew him. You won't find other schools message boards allowing the libelous vitriol spewed towards WVUs previous coach.

Making up bs about him not being able to coach so that the fanbase could get 64 yds rushing in two weeks, pick sixes and blowout losses. PITIFUL.

But when you realize probably 2/3 of the people posting this cr@p are not fans of WVU (but pretend they are) then it starts making sense. Chase out the successful coach and celebrate the one actually producing disastrous results.

Then some of those Mountaineer recruits come to your school instead. What's a shame is people who used to support the Mountaineers always fall right in line with these trolls and shills.

Bucky Wucky...you sound like someone who sucked....helium...before they said something. We get it. You are glad the Mountaineers lost. You refuse to see that NB took over a train wreck left by your fantasy lover DH. You want this season to go completely off the rails. And, you don't have the money to move to Houston to be close to your boy.

Stop being hysterical.

DH had ample time to show what he could do here as a coach and in fairness he had some very good moments. Things don't last forever and he moved on.

He wasnt even fired....

Not really sure what Lyons was suppose to do. The season ended in a disappointment and I dont blame him for not caving to DH's demands.

I do have criticism for the way Lyons handled his previous extension, and DH did come out on top of that one.
