After reading the article in the "Athletic" on the successful effort Ollie made to get us in the Big XII after the ACC told us to take a hike, image this scenario if you will. I know many Mountaineer fans wish we were in the ACC, but they told us no. I repeat...THEY SAID NO!!!!!! Say the Big XII fell though. I can just imagine if we ended up in the AAC. Worse yet, heads would have exploded in Morgantown had Marshall been elevated to the AAC to be our main rival. I can see where Joe would have done anything and everything to make that happen. So to those who still think we should be in the ACC, just imagine our fate if the Big XII told us no as well.

Dude WVU is in the Big12. Why on earth would someone waste their time thinking about the AAC? Look in the mirror and tell yourself to stop wasting your time.

Greg, I understand that. But there are those hard heads who fell we should still be in the ACC and blame Ollie for where we are. We are where we are because of Ollie. At least Ollie was proactive. All Eddie did was wave bye bye to BC, VPI, and Miami. Had Ollie not gotten us in the Big XII, God knows what we would be now.

We were NEVER going to the ACC. They made that clear back in the early 50's when the conference started.

They've been saying no since the conference was formed.

ACC has their back against the wall.

They have been living on hope and the future since 2012.
That day is here as August is a few days away.

Their network fails.
What else does the ACC have?

Pretty much becomes the Big East begging ND to join as a football member and other Conference members looking for a way out.

WV is in a better position for now because the Big 12 is stable.
It will be stable until the issues with the ACC and PAC 12 are resolved.

They could fall back on the Natty they won in both football and B-ball. Just how ignorant do want to look before you stop?

Only way the conference survives

1) All the other conferences take a hit
Or
2) ACC network generates 12+ million a school in profit early. Going up to 20+ million in five years

The aim is to win a natty. You don't get a trophy for earning the most money. Money sure has not brought Texas much success lately.

The ACC network is what kept the conference from collapsing.
The conference has been living on hope and future.
Some schools even went out and bought big name coaches because of the idea that somehow the ACC network will be like the B1G and SEC network.

Wins and losses are important and bring attention to a conference.
But..
Ultimately conferences survive and die not on wins and losses but the bottom line.

Not everyone in the ACC is doing great.
Florida State is really hurting.

I can go on and on about the financial situation in the ACC.
These schools are expecting a payday.
Some schools even spent the money before it was there.

What happens when the ACC network doesn't bring in that money?

These schools are going to have to cut back even more.
Clemson's success is one thing. But the conference's success is another.

If Keaton said this then he is a smart man because he sees what will unfold.

If the ACC network turns into a cash cow this is entirely not important.
I have my doubts of this happening.

I agree about Herd being a *****.
He is GregJacobs.

That is his alter.

Regarding Keaton. Don't think he is on here.

I guess you are one that hopes that WVU goes to the ACC.
ACC should really cut some school loose. They haphazardly expanded. Going to cost them. Great conference but too many welfare schools like Pitt.

No, don't care for the ACC. Just calling you out on your arrogant ignorance. You are consistent if nothing else.

Funny how you are missing the point...

When the conference was on the verge of breaking up Florida State won a NC in football.
That didn't keep Florida State from looking elsewhere.

Florida St is the real key but....
Florida St has connections to UVA.
The main schools in the conference will stay together but look to cut the dead weight if the network doesn't bring in the money.

No we get your point and you are wrong as usual. Money is King and Texas makes the most money so that is the most important. Not sure why I am feeding the troll. You are on par with Greg and M-turd.

Texas can fuel a Top 5 athletic department.

Texas doesn't have budget shortfalls.

If Texas did they would be looking to get out of the conference and change things even if they were winning.

One school having success won't keep a conference together.
When the ACC network doesn't provide the needed revenue.
What is next?

These schools aren't just going to cut expenses.

Look at the PAC 12.
Their failure in basketball and football is a direct result of the failure of their network.

Had Eddie been at WVU when it began breaking up and someone had asked him if the B12 was interested in us, I'm sure he would have said, "I don't know. We haven't heard from them."

I think the BIg-12 is (organizationally) is the best in the country. My reasoning everybody plays
everybody else in football and twice in basketball. Season champions are truly conference
champions. As for Texas and Oklahoma - why would they leave? They are the big dogs
in the Big 12. If they moved to any other conference they would not be THE big dogs - there
would be others who are established in said conference.
As for ACC would like to be able to go to those away games but with vt and pitt coming on schedule
that satisfies the away game thing.

Eddie also made the 3am hire of Bill Stewart and the hire of Jockitch AFTER turning Beilen down initially. Eddie also had a gun held to his head by Uncle Joe for the Marshall series. The two football hires he made no one else was considered. The hiring of Fraud was an easy call. The hiring of Stewart was met with the reaction "HUH????"

One adjective that will never be used to describe Ed P is proactive. I don't blame him for anything but I do shudder to think what would have happened if he had still been the AD when the conference shuffling took place.

LMAO has absolutely nothing to do with conference stability and revenue. If the SEC wanted Clemson they would say nah the ACC just won a National Championship but thanks for the offer...

We would be in the AAC fighting Cincinnati, Houston, UCF and Army for conference title. Instead of OU, OSU, Texas, TTU, ISU, KU, KSU, TCU and Baylor.

ACC will never ever, ever accept WVU in their league of snobs. We are 0-5 on those attempts. It's time to move on from them as they die on the vine.

Paul Finebaum been all Clemson lately.
He been telling the Coots they need to trade places with Clemson.
Clemson is a better cultural fit but....they would much rather be in the ACC. Makes them feel superior because UofSC is hanging around with the Tennessee, LSU and Bama's of the world

Those schools want to stick together
UVA
UNC
Duke
Clemson
Florida State
Georgia Tech

Maybe
VA Tech

The rest of that conference....I think they would leave them in a minute if they could find a way to bring in the money they thought they could get in the Northeast

Texas didn't care either way.
A few different schools wanted Louisville.

I really do think Oliver Luck made a difference because of his ties to UT and the state of Texas.
Louisville doesn't really have ties to anyone or anybody. WVU for the most part has a lot of fans who would rather be elsewhere.

So you think Clemson leaves the ACC if offered by the SEC? They will pay the buyout and leave an automatic path to the playoffs? You are consistent with your lack of knowledge and insight if nothing else.

He also hire jockitch who stayed every bit of 20 hours maybe. EP failed to hire Huggs the first time around because he wouldn't pay the money. He hired JB a coach that never stayed anywhere more than 5 years unti he went to Michigan. A guy who's wife hated WV and the town Morgantown. He tried to go Indiana and NC. State. They didn't want to pay the buyout. JB so pissed he fought to renegotiate his buyout and then left for Michigan the next year. EP failed at getting WVU away from a crumbling Big East.

Whoa there Allen...you've got quite the dislike for EP going there son.

First he presided over WVU in some huge transition years and did an outstanding job. JB was an outstanding hire that brought back WVU basketball.. RR was an outstanding hire that moved WVU into position to have the present situation. And, it wasn't EP's decision to keep WVU in the BE. That decision was way above him lol.

And as far as EP's successor goes. Yes he found a path to the P5 that would accept the Mountaineers. Good job. But he also used WVU as one of his many career stepping stones and made the drastic blunder of bringing in coach clueless who since has shown his true colors in Houston.

I, for one, feel that EP did a good job while at WVU.

We need to shut down this false narrative that most WVU fans want to be somewhere else. This is simply NOT true.

Almost ALL of us love being in the Big XII. It is a perfect fit for us. Most exciting power 5 conference in college football. And the few that don’t love it are coming around.

This thread is about conferences and what conference we almost ended up in or should have ended up in, Douchebag.

And a lot of the posters like to randomly throw out that most of us would like to be somewhere else, which just isn’t true.

Get it now Douchebag?
