After watching the flippant remarks concerning how easy it would be to move to a single payor system, I started wondering how far this has been thought out. I can't find the specifics about the Dem's plan(s) but I have to ask:
- Will healthcare workers be gov. employees?
- Will physicians get paid like the VA system now does?
- Will the gov. dictate the medical schools residency programs? Control the placement and spots available for every specialty?
- Will every gov. physician be forced to provide abortions services or other procedures that go against their religious or moral objections?
- If all healthcare employee's are gov. employees, the next logical step would be taking control of the educational component and career training moving forward.
- If not, how could any health care provider (HCP) make a profit when gov. reimbursements does not cover the cost to deliver the services? In the current system, CMS sets the minimum cost for all services in healthcare but private insurers pay a value add to gain access to a particular market segment. That value add is the profit that providers now live on.
