As usual, McConnell's comments and actions are horrific and anti-American. This guy and his wife just needs to go if this country is ever going to move forward.

This reparation issue is good intent but in 2019, it should be shelved forever. Move forward people. There is nothing that can be done now to repair or repay anyone for the act of African-American slavery. Let's fix today's and tomorrow's issues like poverty, lack of basic health insurance, improved education for all, lower medical and prescription costs while improving care, the federal debt and a "fairer" tax policy to improve the situation without cutting costs for social programs, infrastructure investments, improved and smarter regulations that is a more balanced approached between corporate America and environment, gun legislation, a safe foreign policy including real trade policies. These are some of the kitchen table issues Americans face. Let's address them

4.Make all countries who want to do business here, respect our intellectual property and open their markets like we have to them. China in other words
5.Lower tax on corporations so they will hire more people.
6. Change all immigration loopholes.

Nothing can be done that will ever make up for the sin of slavery and for McConnell to bring up the election of Barrack Obama is pathetic and just plain stupid. There are many arguments that can be made against reparations and who should be held accountable......McConnell was way out of line.

First off, I'm not paying any reparations for something I did not do or profit from. Making that very clear. I don't even know which side my ancestors were on (North or South).

Second, reparations would not be unprecedented. Look back to the Japanese internment camps and Congressional approval for them.

I don’t feel strongly one way or the other about reparations, but they do raise some interesting questions.

1) Should west African and European nations contribute to reparations as they were intimately involved in and profited from the slave trade?

2) Should the US portion of reparations be paid entirely by former slave states?

3) Should descendants of Union soldiers killed in battle receive reparations since those families were certainly harmed in the war to free the slaves?

4) Should visually white people with slave ancestors receive reparations?

5) Will people need to prove they are descendants of US slaves? There needs to be some way of excluding blacks not descended from slaves.

6) Will reparations be prorated based on the percentage of slave heritage?

I’m saying that what some people see as the reason reparations are deserved, a systemic imbalance that retarded the growth and advancement of an entire race of people in this nation, is not counter argued by the success of one person. To do so, imo, trivializes the issue, and can be seen as some as reducing a President to only his race (which is counter productive to progress in terms of social racial constructs).

I doubt reparations would ever be seen as “white people writing checks”, but rather in the form of tax deductions, student loan forgiveness, housing allowances, increased education funding, educational grants, etc.....

All good points that I agree with personally. Reparations, as a program for advancement or even just a penalty, are absolutely counterproductive and dangerous, imo. Even if a bill passed that initiated programs as “reparations” the social blow back of racial resentment would be a horrible repercussion and offset.

The focus, in this regard, should be on poverty. Race should not be a part of the discussion.

Shouldn't any talk about reparations be contrasted with how much better blacks would have done in their own country of origin? I mean, if living here after slavery was ended vs how much better life is in Africa, then you could quantatively show harm and how much. I doubt that blacks today, living in the US, can show their life would have been better living in Africa or wherever they came from.
