Ford is now moving more into China because of the easy to win trade war. Hooray?

Reuters) - Ford Motor Co plans to start production of new luxury Lincoln models in China for that market as they are launched, starting with the new Corsair later this year, to benefit from lower costs and avoid the risk of tariffs, a top executive said on Monday.

“It’s a huge, huge opportunity for Lincoln because we see China as Ground Zero for Lincoln given the size of the market and how well the brand has been received,” Chief Financial Officer Bob Shanks said at a Goldman Sachs conference in New York.

Hey Coop...Ford is an American company. If they're expanding and investing in China what's that do for US shareholders of Ford stock?

Do we need to talk about everyone paying into the system instead of just a select few?

You are advocating a system where the lower your income the higher your effective tax rate. Poor people have to spend all of their money to survive, meaning it is all subject to a consumption tax. Wealthy people only spend a portion of their incomes, so much of it would be shielded from taxation. That is exactly what tarrifs do. They are a consumption tax in the end.

You obviously didn't get the memo: Coop's Conservative...has been the whole time he posts on this forum. [eyeroll]

Hey guy...don't we on the OT forum know @WVUCOOPER is Conservative?
Lol, ya'll too stupid to debate, or can't you be a conservative and disagree with what Donnie does anymore?

as long as they don't have to pay them.

It's also funny to see how many politicians have been bought by the Chinese.

This was never an issue until Trump decided the one way payments to China in the form of higher tariffs were going to stop. Leftists were perfectly fine with us getting reamed...now Trump wants us to do some "reaming" on the Chinese and the Left wants to talk about economic chastity? [eyeroll]

Probably a lot if it increases shareholder profit, lol.

The point is whatever Ford saves manufacturing in China helps its bottom line here. You want to buy a new Lincoln made in China? Fine. Just pay the U.S. tariff on it from China and watch the money flow into the US treasury and your Ford investment portfolio. Chinese workers can pay us more for them too! [winking]

You can lie about being a Conservative, and lie about being a Socialist too. It doesn't make you stupid (that's obvious)...just a liar.

How do consumers avoid paying a "consumption tax" no matter what level of their income? Rich folks also buy more stuff because they have more money! So even if a smaller percentage of their incomes are used to pay consumption taxes, they're still paying more because they buy more stuff!

Unless you're ready to transfer all the taxes and exempt lower income folks from even paying taxes on what they consume...then just call it Socialism (rich paying for the poor to live tax free) and be done with it.

And here comes Atl into the fray to show everyone he has access to a laptop and free internet

You know what OM1 some folks really aren't worth your time. Other folks really aren't worth your effort. When you occasionally run across those very few who aren't really worth either, you've truly discovered someone who is absolutely worthless.

Welcome to my new discovery OM1.

It reduces the buying power of the poor which makes them poorer in effect.

What sort of "buying power" do poor people have to begin with? If you are poor, by definition you have limited "buying power".

Agreed. But if someone's buying power is x and and you throw a tax of y on purchases their buying power is now x/(1+y) which is less than x since y is positive.

This math moment brought to you by the letters X & Y.

That's funny Mule...but if I'm poor my "purchasing power" is limited only to what money I have. Since no one avoids a consumption tax, I'd just have to settle for consuming less. What difference does it make? I'm poor, can't afford sh*t anyway right?

The difference is that that person is more limited. That's a person for whom the small difference matters.

Which is why none of us pays taxes on our first $x made. That excludes those who make that or less from paying taxes.
You pay a lot of taxes on that income. Gas, sales, passed along taxes.

Heard 'ya Mule...been there done that. However poor people typically make less purchases, many of those purchases are not at the retail level where tariffs we are currently taxing from China would effect them much...plus poor folks are not forced to buy only what we are taxing the Chinese for. A lot of the stuff they need to buy is grown or made right here in the good old US of A.

I'm sympathetic to tariffs limiting their (poor folks) purchasing power, however I think that's a "Red Herring" from the Left, designed to get around the fact that they simply don't like us sticking it back to China the way they have been sticking it to us on tariffs.

As I said, I don't like high taxes on anything. They help no one, poor or rich. But I'm willing to let Trump try this tactic to get better tax treatment for our stuff sold over there. That helps poor people, rich people, Chinese people...everybody if he can pull it off.
