In case you don’t know what they are, they’re made entirely from vegetable products (and a protein produced by yeast) and by all accounts you can’t tell the difference between it and a whopper. BK plans to sell these (in addition to whoppers) within a year at all locations. The usual reactions from various public groups are coming forward such as beef farmers, vegans, etc.

Depends on what they taste like. They supposedly tested very well. We shall see...

Did OP forget to log out of his burner account? Do fast food restaurants really use real beef to begin with? I'm all for Burger King and other fast food chains making the switch. More beef for me.

Cutting a little meat out of your diet would probably be a good thing for everyone.

As long as Congress and some stupid President doesn't mandate it, who gives a meatless rat's *** what a company sells?

Because beef (and the American cattleman) may be the next buggy whip. They will make juicy, great tasting burgers faster, cheaper, with way less methane over time. Impossible Foods has already said their intent is to do away with the need for farmed animals.

Meat the next buggy whip? Mmmmkay. I don’t care if it loses a blind taste test. I’m still eating real red meat.

I like real burgers too. But the other one will actually be better tasting one day. Then what?

I highly doubt that.
They have the taste component of this down to a science. Ingredients x, y, and z make it taste like a beef patty. What if you simply add more of those and give it bigger flavor? Hmmm.

I've had the Impossible Burger twice, at a restaurant near me that sells it. I wouldn't say it's identical to real meat but it's close enough that if you didn't know beforehand that it wasn't meat you probably wouldn't notice. One downside though is that it wasn't cohesive enough, which is to say it kinda fell apart sometimes. There's a Burger King near me that I rarely go to but if they get the Impossible Burger I'll stop by more often.

One genre is fake burgers made out of veggies or whatever and that's what the Impossible Burger is. I think those have been around awhile but they're just now getting to the point where they're really good and close to actual burger.

But another genre, and one much harder to conquer I suspect, is getting a cell sample from an animal and growing it by feeding it nutrients. I don't know if this would be considered real meat or not. The initial sample does come from an animal but the final product doesn't. Memphis Meats is one company doing this. My guess is that although it's harder to do, it'd taste more like real meat if they could do it well.

Also, the lottery sucks and Darwin turns 210 years old next February 12th.

Speaking of the lottery, here is another way it sucks. I live in NC. NC started a lottery 10-15 years ago. The money is earmarked for education and they actually named it "The Education Lottery." When trying to get it passed, the politicians swore up and down and left and right that the money would be IN ADDITION to money already going to education and thus we'd never again be short of education money.

Well guess what. The teachers are now having marches at the state capitol in Raleigh demanding more money. But I thought started the lottery meant that all our money problems would be solved with regards to education. Maybe the politicians were lying (again).

ETA: Oops. I left up all that that fake burgers are "just not getting the point of tasting like real burgers." I meant to say they're "just NOW getting to the point of tasting like real burgers." The one letter makes quite a difference.

Another ETA: I said that Darwin turns 210 next February 12. He actually turns 211. Abe Lincoln does too. They were born on the same date.

There is actually a food product named Soylent. It's basically convenience food. They try to make it be all of fast, easy and cheap. I subscribe, which is to say they deliver it to my house, although at this point it's also in some stores, including Wal-Mart. Part of my lunch today was a bottle of Soylent. Of course it's somewhat provocative to actually name it Soylent but at least people don't forget the name.

Being better than a BK burger? Thats not saying much.
Ouch. I like a well prepared Whopper. Not a better fast food burger out there if done right. Problem is most franchisee's hire bad people and there is inconsistency throughout their chain.

Of the chains, I'd have to agree.

You may be right about franchise consistancy. All the ones near me at lunch are just not good.

First, they have to taste good. Second, they need to be healthier than beef. I understand they cost a bit more than beef, but if they taste good, I’m ok with that.

The veggie patties I’ve had to date didn’t taste good enough to make me an herbivore.

How about counties cancelled classes because so many teachers called out to go, but then like 10 showed up in Raleigh?

Yeah, the teachers plan a march ON A SCHOOL DAY, and a month from the end of school when there's be no more school days for 3 months, so a lot of places call of school and lots of the teachers don't even go to the march and end up getting a holiday.

The whole thing is so silly. And yet we were assured that if we only agreed to start a lottery all our education funding problems would be over.

WV started a lottery for education and then slots for education, then table games for education and now sports betting for education. Teachers strike each of last 2 years.
