I've had the Impossible Burger twice, at a restaurant near me that sells it. I wouldn't say it's identical to real meat but it's close enough that if you didn't know beforehand that it wasn't meat you probably wouldn't notice. One downside though is that it wasn't cohesive enough, which is to say it kinda fell apart sometimes. There's a Burger King near me that I rarely go to but if they get the Impossible Burger I'll stop by more often.
One genre is fake burgers made out of veggies or whatever and that's what the Impossible Burger is. I think those have been around awhile but they're just now getting to the point where they're really good and close to actual burger.
But another genre, and one much harder to conquer I suspect, is getting a cell sample from an animal and growing it by feeding it nutrients. I don't know if this would be considered real meat or not. The initial sample does come from an animal but the final product doesn't. Memphis Meats is one company doing this. My guess is that although it's harder to do, it'd taste more like real meat if they could do it well.
Also, the lottery sucks and Darwin turns 210 years old next February 12th.
Speaking of the lottery, here is another way it sucks. I live in NC. NC started a lottery 10-15 years ago. The money is earmarked for education and they actually named it "The Education Lottery." When trying to get it passed, the politicians swore up and down and left and right that the money would be IN ADDITION to money already going to education and thus we'd never again be short of education money.
Well guess what. The teachers are now having marches at the state capitol in Raleigh demanding more money. But I thought started the lottery meant that all our money problems would be solved with regards to education. Maybe the politicians were lying (again).
ETA: Oops. I left up all that that fake burgers are "just not getting the point of tasting like real burgers." I meant to say they're "just NOW getting to the point of tasting like real burgers." The one letter makes quite a difference.
Another ETA: I said that Darwin turns 210 next February 12. He actually turns 211. Abe Lincoln does too. They were born on the same date.
