in Kanawha County was going to be an epic boondoggle much like the Meadowbrook Soccer complex at the Upper Falls of the Coal. (It can't draw flies)

Boy, was I wrong! They've got a National Tourney coming in next summer that's going to be huge. Plus, they let WVSU use their Field Turf football set-up for practice instead of using that old makeshift field between the old State Rehab. Center and the highway, a major leg breaker and knee ruiner.
Even Hollywood Joe showed trying to take credit for the soccer complex.

More dyed hair and wigs in that room than I ever saw on a bunch of men. Shameful! Own your baldness and your old age or look like a damned fool!

I played at Shawnee as a kid. Glad to see it has grown into something the State can be proud of.

It was the first time I began to look into native tribes and their names, areas of existence, and culture.

I hit a hole in 1 at #2 at Shawnee when I was 22. Wormburner probably skipped 5 times on the wat to the green and rolled into the hole.

Hey! My Uncle Dave hit a hole in one on 2 at Shawnee. So did my neighbor.

There was something about that hole that made hack golfers think they were ready for the PGA. Must have been the way it was laid out?

I played in some brutal pick-up basketball games up there. Seeing the great Melvin Walker with his prosthetic lower leg eat up quality street ballers and local college players one on one while talking trash to them was always a highlight of going up there. I loved them cussing about "That damn ol' one legged dude" after he put it on them when they had to pay up.

When people ask me who the greatest athlete to come out of the Kanawha Valley was, I simply say "Melvin Walker". Went to Wisconsin on a football scholarship and injured a knee. The knee went septic, his lower leg had to be removed. It was a sad situation. He had big time offers after HS in every sport he played. Moss and Bobby Alexander couldn't touch Melvin before he lost that leg.

omfg, wtf

Tom Snyder used to talk about the male talent in his time at NBC shellacking their hair down w/ hair spray when leaving 30 Rock on windy days. Tom sported an impressive comb-over in his time there. Snyder was a funny guy.

Gene Keady and his comb-over in his long stint at Purdue perplexed me. It started about two inches above one ear and extended nearly to the other ear. To top it off, it was only about three and half inches wide. Bald as bowling ball behind and in front of it. It was something to see. Must have been a Dapper Dan man to keep it in place throughout the season?
