Another comp could be Georgia in 2008 at 17-17. They ended up a 14 seed and lost first round as well. They finished 91 in kenpom and we are currently 95.

I don't know if there would be anything close to a comp to us this season if we were to pull it off. Yes, some of the records could be the same, but to go to the dance sub-.500 from a P5 conference and do it by beating Oklahoma, #7 TTech, #17 Kansas, and #15 Kansas St in 4 consecutive days...completely unprecedented.

In my opinion we're already playing with house money right now. If we pull this off it goes down as the greatest non-NCAA tournament Cinderella story at the CBB level. If we don't, I couldn't have asked for a better ending to such a lousy season and the future looks bright.

Driving me nuts...After finishing the regular season with a very mediocre record, a college team won their conference tournament and the National Championship. As the head coach was walking off the floor a young reporter on national TV asked, "Coach, in your wildest dreams did you ever see this team winning a national championship?" The coach replied, "Son, my widest dreams have nothing to do with basketball."

Do you or anyone else remember that? Who was the coach and team?

If the NCAA tournament is the goal, win the championship. There is zero reason to speculate if we blow out KU tonight and lose a close one on Saturday. Win it and get in, lose and don't even bother trying to rationalize how we could be selected.

Not sure who is rationalizing getting a selection if we lose. You are the only who posted about that.

All of those teams most probably won their conf. tournament. None would have gotten an at-large bid to the dance. 14-20 doesn't get you in. Not even the nit.

1985 Villanova Rollie Massimino? 18-9 at the end of the season before the Big East tournament. Right?

Rollie Massimino, who won more than 800 college basketball games and coached Villanova to an improbable national title in 1985.

Villanova stunned Georgetown, 66-64, for the national title in the last college basketball game played without a shot clock — shooting an ungodly 79 percent, including 9 for 10 in the second half.

I loved that game.

Georgetown had beaten them twice during the regular season that year. They had some guy named Patrick Ewing, but Villanova's Ed Pinkney both outscored and out rebounded him.

I guess Ewing and Pinkney did OK after that, 12 yrs in the NBA for Pinkney and an incredible 16 yrs for Ewing. I still love Massimino's comeback to that reporter on national TV!
