They’ve been forced to strike
LOL....Really....I've got news for you. They won't have the support this time around. I support better pay for teachers and I've voted for EVERY school levy when it's come up for a vote even though my three grand kids are all home schooled....and my daughter was a teacher. This strike vote has NOTHING to with getting a better education for WV students......It's really about politics and business as usual for the WV "good ol boy" crew. I guess they think 48th is good enough for them. I really feel bad for ALL the dedicated hard working WV teachers who are getting screwed by their political leader hacks. Do they really think charter schools don't require teachers?

They'll lose public support on this one. Using the "strike" as a mean to oppose legislation passed by the elected officials is bastardizing the "strike".

That's the unions whine.

None of my family, teachers in the system, knew about the strike. They jumped the gun on this one.

LOL! Isn't WV about the last one to include charter schools? It's not like it's a new fad at this point.

Remember, this is the state where the unions claimed elimination of Wage Scale and Right to Work were going to break the state.

LOL!

Wanna bet?
About what I expected from one of the "good ol boy" business as usual WV wannabees that have put WV at the bottom of every quality of life and especially public school education lists. Thanks for a job well done.

Last year's strike was about the kids and their education...how many rungs did WV climb up on the education ladder in this country? Have we made it out of the high 40's yet?

Republicans control both houses of the state legislature and the Governor’s mansion. All three members of the US House from WV are Republicans and one of the two Senators is a Republican (they both are really). And yet we are last or next to last in every category. Your buddies are doing a helluva job.

You wanna talk about “good ole boy?” How about that state attorney general taking money from the pharmaceutical companies and we have the worst drug epidemic in the country. And that same son of a ***** is suing to get people kicked off of their insurance coverage for pre-existing conditions. How about that Supreme Court Justice who just got sentenced for misuse of state property and mail fraud? Don Blankenship. Arch Moore. Do you want me to go on?

We just gonna discount the last 80 years? Be as blissfully ignorant as you’d like. We inherited your shitshow.

I am very pro union (especially private sector) & i believe strikes hurt all involved. We are not allowed to strike or stop work for any reason except for safety. If teachers dont like charter schools & can prove that they hurt kids education than let them do so , they are educated & should be able too

You Idiot.....you fukers controlled the WV state legislature for 84 straight years. The Repubs have had it how many.....You fukers sold out the WV economy and resources to highest bidders....you fukers also drove our public school system down a sh*t hole.
The Rebublicans have given the teachers the hightest pay raises in state history if they accept the latest deal. All done in just a few SHORT years......It's going to take a few more years to overcome 84 years of your corrupt good boy leadership.
Want me to goooooo onnnnn?
Oh.....BTW....the drug epidemic was well underway under the leadership of your pal....good ol Darrel.

The Public school system is getting a ton in this bill. Yea some things they don't like but this is Political so there should be some give and take. Also where do we have extra money in this **** poor State? We do not have a Pittsburgh, Philly, Lexington, etc to raise salaries too much. The money isn't there, also what about the roads?

I've only seen highlights of what's in the bill, but those sound like a reasonable education bill that gives some things to the teachers. It sounds like this is an attempt to kill the charter school part. I think charters need to have restrictions but I generally like the idea. My own kid goes to a local charter school.

It's all about three things. Charter Schools, School Choice and not allowing for union dues to be automatically deducted from paychecks.

I haven't heard a thing about the dues, but how/why is it legal for public sector unions to exist?

How is pulling money from local public schools to give to charter schools "fixing" the problems? It's creating more problems.
