The DC school trips I've been on, only a handful were teachers, the rest were volunteer parents who wanted to pay to go to DC. Most not used to dealing with students, or even being responsible for a group, for that matter. Even the coordinator was a art teacher or something like that. Any coach used to dealing with bent parents would be better in that situation. They froze, plain and simple.
I know Public Schools would have to have a school rep (multiple based on the amount of students) on the trip. They should be the lead, especially in a situation that could potentially be dangerous like this.

Says you. I think they did, and I explained it.
Unless they broke a law they are minor children.

These kids are being dixxed and being threatened, harrassed. People are calling their jobs to get them fired. People are calling colleges they have shown interest in.

Get a clue.

The focus needs to be on the press and Mr. Phillips. Remember the 3rd group was making fun of Mr. Phillips prior to him interacting with the kids:

From an article:

Phillips told the Detroit Free Press that he had seen the white Catholic students “attacking these four black individuals.”

“There was that moment when I realized I’ve put myself between beast and prey,” he told the newspaper. “These young men were beastly and these old black individuals was their prey, and I stood in between them and so they needed their pounds of flesh and they were looking at me for that.”

It was all untrue, of course – but that did not stop the mainstream media from going nuclear.
The press reported what Phillips said happened. They are also reporting the student’s side, and linking the new video that surfaced. I’m not discounting bias. I think the connotations of the MAGA hat is a good example of that. It might be factual that the MAGA slogan invokes an aggressive tone to some, but it’s not something that should be accepted. It should be battled by the media. Political affiliations and slogans should never be allowed to take on this type of tone, unless it’s clearly meant.

The media needs to be more proactive in this regard. I don’t think it’s poor journalism to report Phillips description, as long as counter views are given as well. But I think it’s biased to not defend an act of wearing a MAGA hat as benign.

The media is talking about the kids side now that they screwed it up. Its too late.

Lots of fools in the world. Facebook is like a chemical that helps grow a plastic world and fuels fools and fake connections.

My biggest issue in this is that adults and media people know this stuff happens and it was blue checkmarks on twitter that retweeted the initial story that was edited to make the boys look awful and they did no research about it and this fueled the reaction. Now many of them are taking down those original messages and suggesting people look at the whole thing. The problem is for those kids the damage is done.

Their mistake was wearing MAGA hats.

No, not like Parkland. Parkland doxxed themselves by showing up in media everywhere with their names attached. They became standard-bearers for the anti-gun movement. Even after all of that, they still never received the blind hate threats that the insane left provides. Find me one meme where someone wants to run the Parkland kids through a woodchipper.

Largely correct but not fully. The school should have never allowed their students to wear provocative and political commentary on their clothing for a field trip. There is a very bad connotation in many people's eyes with MAGA as it is now known by the President's actions and his self declaration of being a Nationalist. When the first video was shown showing a staredown with a smirk and other teens acting in the manner they were, wrong perceptions were taken. As I said last night, I'm very pleased with the words the one particular teen gave in combination of the press showing more of the story including what transpired way before this confrontation.

I will agree that any individual that is making threats or other attacks on these youths should be dealt with accordingly. I said that with the Parkland incident and will say it now. Adults need to grow up.

Come on, you have to be smarter than this. So many on the right have attacked the Parkland youths. Don't act like it didn't happen. Hell, it happened here for months giving attacks on the youths the thumbs up.

Define attacking.

Verbally attacking their ideas is not attacking the individual. See Attention Hogg.

Wanting to burn down their school, or send them through a wood chipper? That's new territory.

I'm talking there were many reports of inappropriate actions towards the Parkland youth on social media which I believe is what we are discussing. In addition, many FoxNews hosts attacked the same youths. One, Laura Ingraham got into a bunch of trouble for it. You don't remember?

Laura Ingrahan said something about a tweet the one kid made about not getting into UCLA. She commented on his tweet. It wasnt like she was digging up information on him.

You had stated if true, the dad took screenshots.
I'm guessing this is saying Michelle Grissom said he should be part of hitler youth and she is the teacher in question? If so and that is her twitter account and she is a teacher at that school, like I said I agree she should be fired.

I have no doubt that liberals believe that picture should come with a trigger warning.

A young white kid, unapologetically wearing a MAGA hat and refusing to back down from a minority adult while giving him a smug, “I’m better than you” look.

This is like a photo epitomizing liberal fear. God bless that young man.

It's been interesting to watch the complete and total meltdown people had over this. My Facebook feed was lit up over the weekend with it, with many of my "friends" acting like complete fools, rushing to judgement, tearing the kids down, etc. It suddenly got quiet when it became clear that, as usual, there was a lot more to the story. Unfortunately I still have a few stragglers that refuse to believe that the kids were not in the wrong.

The joys of the information age... or the mis-information age. Where a photo, and even a 1 minute video, never tell the whole story. It's like those commcerials about dogs in shelters, with Sara McLaughlin music playing in the background. I could shoot video of my dog, slow it down, add a sound track and make people think he was horribly treated.

Another example of victim shaming. We are better than this
