... will probably reduce government revenues and accelerate debt.

Doesn’t bode well for Trump’s promise to eliminate the debt in 8 years.

The debt was $19.9T when Trump took office in 2017. My guess is it will be $24T when he leaves office in 2021.

Hopefully we learn from thes disastrous protectionist trade policies AND don't blame the tax cuts. I don't hold out much hope.

The tax cuts are horrendous for the debt and the long term health of the economy. They are part of the equation. Trade policies are presently more impactful to the current health of the market, earnings projections and the path of the next few quarters. I will agree with that.

Meh. Agree to disagree on the business tax cuts. I'll agree with you on the individual tax cuts. That said, one of the major reasons for the corporate tax cuts, capital investment in the US, is being COMPLETELY wiped out by trade policies. L O f'n L. "But he's a business man". :flush:

Really, this is the biggest mindfvck of this Presidency to me.....as big as the fact people trust the con-artist billionaire is crazy to me, at least I can understand the “outsider” argument. But how the hell a GOP President is so quickly going against what seems like fundamental conservative fiscal policy to the delight of passionate conservatives is just as perplexing as all get out. Shama be hamma a boppity boom

There's nothing conservative about him. Protectionist economic policy combined with a global tariff war is doom.

The debt was $1T when Reagan took office and is about $22T now. I believe we’ve proven beyond any doubt that tax cuts for the wealthy don’t stimulate the economy enough to generate offsetting revenues.

I’m for spending cuts, but federal spending also stimulated the economy.

What we need is a death tax to start paying down the debt.

I think we should eliminate federal corporate income taxes. Think of the intellectual horsepower we would release if the people devoting their efforts to avoiding corporate taxes could focus on improving business fundamentals. Corporations are tax collectors, not taxpayers anyway.

Don't like trickle down but like trickle up?

You want to pay down the debt with a death tax? Then lets just seize the entire wealth of the top 0.1% in this country, combine it with a hunger games like show where we hunt the top 0.1% and broadcast it on TV. Double dip on the death tax AND broadcast revenues. [thumbsup]

Taxes & death are guaranteed...oh wait we the government have spent to much ...lets tax you after death ...whats the problem with only spending what we make ? Every one of them in office is corrupt to the bone , they may go in with an ounce of integrity but after the first term they have been corrupted by power (money ) if we follow the money we can bet on what they will vote for...

Your share of the debt is $179,000. Assuming you were born before 1980, 95% of this debt was accumulated during your lifetime. Rather than dump it on your children, pay your share at your death. Don’t be a deadbeat dad.

I don’t have kids, but I hate the idea of dumping my share on yours.

Better move to Russia then ‘cause you’ve been living under Keynesian economics your whole life. Government deficit spending to stimulate the economy.

Hey John Maynard Keynes. How much debt could government run up if the private sector wasn't supplying its revenues first? Utterly mind numbingly amazing stupidity how to you Socialist Leftists, there is no economy unless government is spending wildly by running up debt! [eyeroll] Of course the real problem always is taxpayers aren't paying enough, or they're keeping too much of what they earn. It's never government spending too much...oh noooo!

Taxpayers are smart enough to generate enough revenue to fund all of the money government wastes and then some, ah but they're too stupid to keep what they earn while government refuses to live within its means. Why are the people who pay the bills always the problem? Seems to me you Socialists ought to be thanking them (taxpayers) instead of blaming them for your inability to be frugal with what they allow YOU leeches to spend.

Tax the rich....evil corporations should pay more...the wealthy should be punished for having too much! Try running Leviathan on what you folks earn or produce on your own against profit driven competition. Oh...I almost forgot...Government doesn't make anything or have any profit based competition. Maybe that's why you all waste so much of everyone else's hard earned money, then complain you're not being given enough?

What debt would government have if it cut spending to meet revenues? How come 3 trillion dollars isn't enough to spend without running up debts? Who wastes that kind of money?

Wait...don't answer that...
