Summing up WVU season so far

WVU’s resume this season:

Beat Tennessee, 40-14
Vols are 3-3, but their losses are to Alabama, Florida and Georgia and they beat Auburn.

Beat Youngstown, 52-17
Penguins are 3-3 with 5 games against non-Power 5 teams.

Beat Kansas State, 35-6
Wildcats are 2-4, even losing to Baylor but beating Oklahoma State, which isn’t the Cowboys we knew from previous seasons.

Beat Texas Tech, 42-34
Red Raiders (5-1) haven’t lost to ANYONE ELSE. This is the biggest feather in WVU’s cap so far, but the 2nd half was the beginning of the offense malaise that excellerated against Iowa State into a disastrous putrid loss.

Beat Kansas, 38-22.
Jayhawks are 2-4, beating only Central Michigan and Rutgers, two sad excuses for a football team.

Lost to Iowa State, 30-14.
Cyclones are a 3-3 team, but with Brock Purdy at QB and David Montgomery at RB, they are a much better team that faced WVU than the one that lost 3 games without both of them as starters.

Summing it up:

The first 6 games’ opponents have a combined record of 18-18 but the remaining teams on the Mountaineers’ schedule have a combined record of 23-12. MAJOR increase in difficulty!

Baylor 4-3
Texas 6-1
TCU 3-4
Oklahoma State 4-3
Oklahoma 6-1

A 11-1 WVU WILL BE in the Football Final Four, and deserves to be. So, guys, let’s start with Baylor on Thursday night to a 6-game winning streak (including the Big 12 title game) that leads to the Football Final Four.

I'll be in Mountaineer Field for the 7 p.m. kickoff since I'm not dead yet, only 86 (as of November 5).

Curious how WVU could ever get to 12-1 before the Playoffs................ with only 11 regular season games and 1 CCG.

Thanks. I caught that, too. Too many numbers running around in my head. I edited my original post.

Point still valid, though. 11-1 WVU with 3 victories combined over Texas and Oklahoma WILL BE in the Football Final Four. Hard for FOUR other teams to have a better resume than that, particularly if the committee, as it often claims, goes by the best 4 teams as of the end of the season and conference title games.

Thursday night's game against Baylor will tell us a lot about the team. Win and cover may show that we fixed some problems and are ready to take on the tough part of the season. If we struggle and just get by, or lose, God forbid, it probably indicates a crash landing in our future, and some big time pressure on Holgerson and the staff. I'm most concerned about our offensive line that seems to have broken down the past couple of games.

you mean like "No way a team who can't win their division belongs in the Playoffs!!!!"

like 2014 tOSU and 2017 Bama
Yes. If you can't even make your conference title game you don't belong in the Football Final Four! Hell, I've advocated 4 16-team conferences with the 8 division winners in the National Football Playoff for months. Haven't you been paying attention or you just see how you can piss on my posts?

I do miss the screaming brat, though.

You threw an absolute tantrum when Ohio State was invited to the CFP in 2014, but barely posted a word when Alabama was invited last year. You're an Ohio State hater, and prove it over and over again with all of your anti-Buckeyes posts and threads. You should move completely out of the State of Ohio, if you have not done so already, as doing so would dramatically lower your blood pressure, and add months to your life.

In fairness, who outside of Ohio doesn’t hate OSU? No one wants to see a crooked institution and program succeed.

Haters gonna hate. Your posts are usually much better than this piece of trash. There was nothing "crooked" about Ohio State's National Championship in 2014-15, but I know why you're jealous.

The problem with the year OSU got in after losing to a lowly Va Tech on OSU's home field is that it kept out the BEST team that year (TCU).

If TCU gets in they win the WHOLE thing.

TCU was CLEARLY the best team that year.

Baylor could have been, but Baylor was the most undisciplined team that year. I don't think Baylor even cared if they actually won the game sometimes.

But, TCU was clearly the best team in the country that year. Hands down!

Actually Ohio State was...........

they won 13 games in a row I believe and did it with 3 different QBs.

TCU was rightfully punished for scheduling one of the weakest OOC schedules in P5 leagues.

Ohio State also had a 13th game................. where they won their league 59-0.

No more convincing than that.

If your aunt had stones, then she'd be your uncle. The inaugural CFP National Championship Trophy "resides" in Columbus, and a whole lot of meaningless wild speculation litters your post.

It was BAYLOR that had the weak OCC schedule that year, NOT TCU. Get your facts straight before you run your mouth.

OSU may have the trophy, but they did not win a TRUE playoff.

TCU was BETTER, but was not given the chance to prove it. OSU LOST to a middle of the ACC road Va Tech. Now go put an asterisk on that tarnished trophy.

last time I checked.................. 12-1 will always beat 11-1 on Selection Day among P5 teams.
Not this season. The committee will not penalize a school for a weather cancellation. A WAY different situation that not scheduling enough games or having a 13th "data point."

If WVU wins out, including the Big 12 title game, the Mountaineers WILL be in the Football Final Four.

And there will NOT be more than one unbeaten Power 5 team. Bookmarket it!

You're delusional, 44. There is no asterisk next to a title won by beating mighty No. 1 Alabama in the semi-final/Sugar Bowl, then trashing No. 2 Oregon in the National Championship Game. Your grapes are incredibly sour.

A whole bunch of wrong in your post........ and your logic. Allow me to fix you:

TCU's 2014 OOC schedule:

- Samford (lol, 1-AA team........ enough said)
- Minnesota (finished 8-4 in the regular season and were #25 in the CFP rankings)
- SMU ( won ONE FREAKING GAME THAT SEASON)

combined record for TCU's OOC opponents = 16-19

Honestly, if you have a 1-AA scheduled.................. and are in a tie, or a remote-tie with another P5, you lose........ end of discussion. Schedule actual opponents.

Undefeated Notre Dame and/or Clemson, as well as these schools with one loss, would get into the CFP ahead of a one-loss WVU:

Alabama
LSU
Georgia
Ohio State
Michigan

Navy: 7-5
VT: 6-6
Kent St: 2-9
Cinci: 9-3

combined regular season record for tOSU's OOC schedule: 24-23
