More than? Maybe not that strong for me, but I definitely see it as a big negative.
Serving in the military should deserve citizenship. If you’re willing to carry a rifle for us, I think that’s good enough. That’s a loophole I’d leave wide open.
I think working our fields, and groves, and construction in our cities, and in our hotels, and.......also warrants a pathway, but you’re right carrying a rifle should certainly warrant citizenship no questions asked.
I get your point, and sure, that could happen, I don’t have the answers. In my mind, if these guys coming up from south of the border can serve and go fight, for me, I’m good with it.
My guess is that this isn’t an official law. My other guess is that Trump is going to make this so painful on everyone that a legislative solution is the only thing that will fix it. I hope that’s the rationale. Neither left or right actually seem to want to address immigration. Schumer punting and saying it’s the President’s job to solve is absurd. There is zero chance I’d give him that. I’d press immigration reform every day from not until the mid terms and I’d make it very very public.
I agree that this has to be a legislative solution. I have never seen Congress punt to executive fiat like this. Bob Byrd would roll over in his grave.

I agree he should put it on Congress' plate every day. It is their problem to fix because anything any Executive branch does is going to have legal issues in the court without better laws.

That is unfreaking unbelievable. They signed a contract, a bilateral contract agreed to by both parties, and have committed no known infractions that would negate their enlistment. The soldier mentioned in the article advanced two grades from enlistee to Private E2. If he has done nothing to violate the the Oath of Enlistment, or the terms of his enlistment contract, the Government is legally and morally obligated to the terms of the contract.
I didn’t even know enlistee was a pay grade.

Reading the article a bit more closely I see a lot about ‘delays’ regarding training while it’s being implied, but not clarified, that was because of our government. Odd. You know recruits can choose to delay training...right?
Some become eligible to become citizens after ‘only a few days of boot camp’ ? Wtf? You (most that served anyway) know that you can simply ask to ‘walk away’ (like you never even enlisted...no honorable or dishonorable discharge) from the military during boot camp...right?
Plenty of this story smells off misleading (or non disclosed) facts.

For your info -- When I reported to basic training, myself and other reportees were sent to what was called a Reception Station.
You didn't do a week at the reception station before being assigned to your unit? I was called by many names there but never anything as nice as Private. You got paid at E-1 rate for your time at the rec. sta but not as a private.
