Less than a week before the California primary, Google listed “Nazism” as the ideology of the California Republican Party.

In the “knowledge panel” that provides easy access to information next to search results, Google was showing “Nazism” as an “ideology” of the party as of Thursday morning. The word “Nazism” was hyperlinked to a secondary page that shows “Nazism” alongside other “ideologies” of California Republicans like “Conservatism,” "Market liberalism,” “Fiscal conservatism,” and “Green conservatism."

Looks like it has to do with Wikipedia and not so much Google bias:

I don't think this has anything to do with Trump. I think you would agree.....that "Something is rotten in Denmark".

I've never edited a Wiki page but I think that anyone can do it and that's the whole idea of Wikipedia.
Can you or I go get on Wiki and put on whatever we want? I would think if that was true they would be overrun with constant bullsh*t.

The words “Nazi” or “Nazism” do not appear in the current Wikipedia page for the California Republican Party. And....I would think that Google would have better sense than to use Wiki for accurate information.
Almost as if it's been changed since it was brought public. Odd.

The part about Google using Wiki I am 100% in agreement with you. But that reeks of laziness and cost savings more so than bias.

Anyone with Internet access can write and make changes to Wikipedia articles, except in limited cases where editing is restricted to prevent disruption or vandalism. Users can contribute anonymously, under a pseudonym, or, if they choose to, with their real identity.
Thanks

The level of laziness probably depends on how that information is filtered. Obviously that methodology failed this time around.

The main issue is that this is a search engine of things on the internet. It pulls information from the internet. If some of that info is bogus, it still comes up on a search. I could search "Coop's mom" on Google right now. I'm sure there would be some ugly stuff that came up in that search, all bogus because the woman is a saint.

Finally a good post by you.
