So, I thought that MORE guns in PUBLIC places makes events and people SAFER?

The NRA's leadership forum at the gun group's annual meeting this week in Dallas will feature Vice President Mike Pence, but it won't feature guns.

The gun ban has drawn the ire of gun-control advocates who question how the NRA can support open carry while banning guns as a safety measure at its own event.

The group bills Friday's forum as "one of the most politically significant and popular events" in the nation, drawing Second Amendment leaders in government, the media and even entertainment.

That's the rub. The NRA website notes that, because of the appearance of Pence, the Secret Service will be responsible for security at the forum. That means no guns or gun accessories, knives or "weapons of any kind." Even selfie sticks and laser pointers are banned. No gun lockers, either.

Why do you always have to be duplicitous?

Why doesn't the NRA protest this limitation and restriction of 2nd Amendment rights? More guns would make the Vice President safer, right? They should be protesting this, not supporting it.

I can't believe the Repubs want to suppress my 2nd Amendment rights. I was planning on attending this event but not going now. Sad!

Only the government can suppress #2A. Private entities cannot.

But the NRA should be going apesh!t over this restriction of OUR 2nd Amendment rights!!!!!! The NRA has established their doctrine: More Guns = Safer Places.......

It has? Can you point me to that? I don't think I've ever heard Dana say that.

So the government can, as you put it "suppress the 2A", to protect the VP..........then why can't they do it to protect our children and anyone else? Interesting that they don't care for the average American more than this........

lmfao, they are the most un self aware ************* on earth, sort of like, how dare a comedian make fun of us, they should act like that man we admire. Mark my words, the do nothing little dick needs big guns crowd is going to screw the pooch for those of us that got our military fix serving our country and don't need assault weapons for our civil war fantasies. They make us all out to be the ignorant morons who post memes on face book asking why Vans aren't banned. Yeah, lets do nothing because almost all of us agree on Universal background checks but the rubes can't see anything but another reason to dig in their backward *** heels and yell they wanna take all our guns. That "regulate wombs instead of weapons" **** ain't gonna fly going forward so I'd rather the no gun crowd see that not all of us are like the redneck militia gun porn idiots.

The guys responsible for your safety in there have guns. Want to bet any nutjobs who want to come in there causing trouble are aware of the fact that security is in there armed?

I'll bet you wouldn't live in a country where the citizens aren't armed. If you did, your Government there would have you miserable and there wouldn't be a damn thing you could do about it.

No dog in this fight....

...but just my first thought..

...if the right to bear arms is largely about protection from government tyranny then shouldn’t the right to carry be most important at a function including members of government?

Don’t get all pissy with me...just a quick thought...I’m sure I should have spent more than thirty seconds thinking before replying...

When you "know" your government leaders stance on the right to bear arms you don't necessarily need to carry arms to that meeting. Dang, just realized the lefts reason for hating the second amendment.....It gives us the "right" to bear arms and it wasn't "left" out of the amendments...brillunt

this is stupid. Canada has restrictive gun laws. England has restrictive gun laws. I had a job offer in Toronto and would have moved there in a second if my wife (medical professional) didn't have to go back to school and then re-certify. Is Canada miserable? Other than the prairie winters, I don't think so. But keep making stuff up.

No, not exactly.... what you all seem to be forgetting is the VP is surrounded by SS. When it comes to the President and Vice President, the SS get to set the ground rules. Sure the NRA could have said, "screw you, we're carrying," and then the SS would have said, "then he's not coming".

Stop it with the horrible false analogies.

Or Pence could have told the Secret Service he was attending to prove a point with the masses carrying........ Perfectly safe.

Two questions OM1:

1) Why aren't you in Canada or someplace else if you prefer to live in a country that doesn't allow citizens to own guns? (my original point was where folks are not allowed to own arms, they are indeed miserable)

2) Can you name any country where gun ownership is forbidden among citizens where they can dispose of that Government if they don't like what it's doing? Better yet, what country do citizens live freely to come and go as they please or freely criticize their Government without fear of reprisals if they are not allowed to keep or bear arms?

Also Canadian citizens are allowed to keep personal firearms with certain restrictions, so your analogy is not only wrong, it is horribly flawed.
