Well aren’t you just the rootinist tootinist gun shootinist man in all Atlanta!

I like the suggestion. The cost will be more than most on your side of the divide will accept.

That's funny. Blast 'em in the ***! As for cost, it's why I suggested using ex-Military who are retired. I favor tax breaks for them, or some other perk like free meals at their restaurants of choice in exchange for giving us that service. Lower the sales taxes to the restaurants, or let them write off the benefit as a charitable contribution on their corporate taxes.

I know we're broke...so costs are always going to strain our resources. But to me our kids lives are priceless, so I'm willing to find creative financing to pay for this extra level of protection for them, or I'd even favor cutting some non essential administrative costs if that's what it would take to fund it.

It’s not just the guards, there’s insurance costs, training, upgrades to the infrastructure of the school, etc...

I’m all for it, but it would be a major expense nationwide, and states can’t afford it.

I'm not sure there's no money for it. Maybe not for that and some of the other crap school administrations do, but a re-prioritization of resources may be what's needed. Short of that, I'd be OK with spending a little more on that instead of school lunches. Parents who can't afford to send their kids to school without at least a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich should eat out less or maybe get rid of their Cell phones or cable T-V. We can afford it.

The thing is....follow up with what exactly? An arrest? Couldn’t be put away for long making a general threat on social media, could you? And then, even if they were jailed for a short time, the person wouldn’t be in better mental shape I’d imagine upon release.

Hence the real dilemma we face and why solving this issue is not going to be easy.

Do away with school lunches? You must have no idea what it’s like in some schools at all. It’s literally the only good meal some students get all day. Absolutely not. Maybe we should strip teachers salaries from the overpaid amount they receive? Trust me. There’s not a lot of wiggle room in school budgets. If Congress ponies up some more dough, but.... we just approved a spending bill that makes a liberal like me nauseous

Personally, I think this speaks to the lack of focus we put towards our youth. Not just in education, but in summer programs, counseling, role models, community outreach, etc....

Public education can be the main tool to help cure many of our ills. If we treat it with the respect and funding it deserves.

A couple days after 9–11, I showed up to my kid’s school in my military uniform and told the principal that I’d be happy to wear my sidearm. They declined but said go ahead and show up in uniform any time I wanted to. Ironically, I noticed other parents eventually wearing their uniforms (even if it was scrubs, etc).

Believe me, these kids and teachers felt safer knowing there was someone there to watch over them.

Can’t just ask volunteers to be on site, background checks have to be done.

Local police open the door for students at my daughter’s elementary.....gives each student a high five walking in.....they love it, he loves it, I love it. More of that would be a good thing.

boomer school meets roughly nine months out the year right? So how do those kids eat lunch the other 3 months? I'm sorry but any Parents so destitute that their kids are only getting lunches to eat provided by the Government either need to find supplemental work, or maybe stop screwing and making more Babies? I'll guarantee you those parents are eating at least once a day...and probably more with greater quantities of food than their kids. Cut those meals in half, and send the kids to school with something to eat for lunch.

Department of education has a 68 Billion dollar annual operating budget. That's not enough money to pay for some enhanced school security? I seriously doubt it. There are 4,400 DOE employees right? Get rid of half of them and use their salaries to pay for it!

From Web:
The Department of Education is administered by the United States Secretary of Education. It has approximately 4,400 employees and an annual budget of $68 billion (2016)

In our county there are summer programs were kids are given box meals. Many of these kids have parents who barely clothe the kid, much less feed them, and the school system purposely sends home food on Friday so that the kid has the chance to eat it and not the parents.

I'm sympathetic for Parents who struggle to put food on the table. But as I said if those Parents have cell phones, ipads, late model cars on loans, hi speed internet, cable, color T-V's, go to concerts, smoke joints, drink beer, attend live sporting events, eat out, have health club memberships, get their hair or nails done, wear fashion clothing, go to movies, purchase music for their mp3 players, or engage in any other non essential entertainment or luxury activity that takes food away from their own kids for lunches I don't have a lot of sympathy for them.

For children’s health and well being

If we were as concerned about Children's Health & "well being" as you say boom, we wouldn't be forcing taxpayers to pay for their murders by their Mothers before they have a chance to even be healthy.

What I think is always missed in these types of debates is not our lack of compassion to help those truly in need of public assistance, or even our indifference towards their suffering, neither is true.

However what we never discuss is our debased culture that breeds & fosters a lack of personal responsibility or self respect not to expect taxpayers to remove or absolve folks of their poor decision making either to endeavor to conceive a child they cannot afford or that they are not financially or emotionally prepared enough to take care of on their own.

When we get around to engaging in honest discussions about solving that problem, our need for more or bigger Government to replace the lack of personal responsibility & poor decision making will be reduced and eventually eliminated.

Here we go........get ready for the conversation to switch to abortion and away from the gun violence in schools that are killing our children........and funny how they say "2nd Amendment" all the time, yet there have been limitations and restrictions placed on speech and assembly.........I agree with what Steve Kerr said........

"It doesn’t seem to matter to our government that children are being shot to death day after day in schools. It doesn’t matter that people are being shot at a concert, in a movie theater. It’s not enough apparently to move our leadership, our government, the people who are running this country to actually do anything. That’s demoralizing.”

“But we can do something about it. We can vote people in who actually have the courage to protect peoples’ lives and not just bow down to the NRA because they finance their campaign for them. So, hopefully, we will find enough people to vote good people with courage to actually help our citizens remain safe and focus on the real safety issues and not building some stupid wall for billions of dollars that has nothing to do with our safety, but actually protecting us from what truly is dangerous -- which is maniacs with semi-automatic weapons (who) are just slaughtering our children. It's disgusting."

Painting a grim picture of America, Donald Trump promised to protect the country and restore "law and order" by putting "America First" in his address Thursday evening formally accepting the GOP nomination for president.

"Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities," Trump said. "Many have witnessed this violence personally, some have even been its victims. I have a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon — and I mean very soon — come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored."

Because I like to stir it up. But...I'm just trying to show that everyone can play the blame game. You do understand that all Trump voters are racists, homophobic, anti immigrants, gun nuts and anti women.
