He’s no longer in the NOI. He denounced them as well, I’m pretty sure. Personally, I think he was a horrible choice, but a man can change. Aren’t you an example of that very thing? Many others have moved away from the NOI once they realized that their racist doctrine was wrong. That org preys on youth and anger.
True, but as far as I know Keith Ellison has never renounced his Faith in Islam. Not sure he's even renounced the Black Muslim Nation of Islam either. Can you you link me to where he has?

He denounced the NOI in 2006. He said he was never a member, but CNN references his actions in law school as acting as a liaison for the NOI and local activists. He downplayed that affiliation.
I didn't say there was anything wrong with being a Muslim, but I'd certainly argue some of their beliefs are wrong. As I'd also argue that much of the Nation of Islam's racist views are wrong. Believe what you want, doesn't make it right.
