Would WVU take Rich Rod back

Since he is unemployed.

If he did come back what would you expect from him.

I would rather see WVU hire one of these three coaches
Frank Wilson UTSA
Neal Brown Troy
Lane Kiffin FAU

Please stop. Holgy is fine. Admittedly he needs to take the next level over the next couple of years. Follow up this excellent recruiting class with a top 15 season. Then stack another top 25 class next year.

I hope so. He built a good program here and i like to believe if he could do it all over again he would have stayed. There is nothing unique about what we do in this league.

What about Arizona? What about Michigan? Do we just disregard his work since he dumped WVU like a dick.

West Virginia is closer to 35th than 25th.
Being outrecruited by over half of the conference.
Better chance that WVU moves down tomorrow than up.

Top 15th could be a possibility IF they can beat Tennessee and NC State to start the season.
TCU is at home. They have to play in Stillwater.

Thinking 9-3 before the bowl game.
With either a 6-2 or 5-3 conference record.

Maybe good enough to get in the conference championship game but I doubt it.

No matter how great Will Grier and his receivers are if the defense can not get off the field than Grier doesn’t develop timing and therefore WVU loses.

West Virginia needs less Grier throwing the ball 45 times a game and more running the ball to protect the defense.

The problem so far is that DH puts his defense in position to give up 250 rushing yards a game.

TCU
Oklahoma St
Oklahoma
Texas
Baylor
Iowa St
Kansas St

All have the potential to rush for 250 yards on WVU.
Both of the Oklahoma schools are going to more of a prostyle spread this year.

Especially OU with 3 great Rbacks and a Running QB

Haven’t seen Tennessee but I am sure they will be a team with Pruitt that wants to run the ball as well.

Unless WVU can jump on teams quick than they may have more issue than originally thought.

Especially if Grier takes a couple of hits.

Well in Michigan he had to completely revamp a program and in the three years there he had them improving each year, and its not like Harbaugh has them where the want to be either. At Arizona he had a 43-35 overall record and three bowl wins. I think there was more to the “dumping” than some people know. There was some conflict and he made his decision. I still beleive he was the best coach we have had in recent history and he did a lot in regards to building this program.

Do the calculations.
Since WVU agreed ckto a contract with DH their revenue has doubled.

Not saying WVU should max their football expenses out on a coach because then you cannot make improvements and you cannot have a well rounded athletic department.

Just ask Bama if you do not believe so. Finally their basketball program found new life but since Texas forced Bama to give Saban 11.5 million a year their facility upgrades have declined as well as performance in other sports.
Don't forget his $4 million signing bonus. Nick is doing well since quarterback Monongah High, my alma mater, to the 1968 state football title with Kerry Marbury in his backfield.

The problem is that the offense gives the defense a short field, again and again. It's only Tony Gibson's great defense that keeps the opponents from scoring more. One game 3 offense miscues that gave the opponent the ball in the red zone resulted in THREE points. The defense is so far ahead of the offense.

I don’t know about that.
The issue for WVU on offense is in between the 20’s.
Once inside the 20 the safties naturally can move up because of a shorter field and this takes away the first of WVU’s two plays.

On defense WVU’s issue is run defense.
The opposition averaged over 200 yards a game.
More importantly the opposition averaged over 6 yards per play.
WVU turned the ball over more than they created turnovers.

WVU needs to be more efficient on offense as their third down average was horrible as well.

You are right their defense was great on third downs but still if you are giving up on average 6 yards per play that is not many third downs

Got fired twice and his record at either place wasn’t eye popping. Those are the facts.

Yeah, just dont forget to include what he built here in those facts.

What does that have to do with anything today? Hey the guy did some good things at WVU but that was in the joke Big East. Apples n Oranges. Completely different situation today. Connecting those Big East dots to today is a waste of time.

Look at Hugo attempting to rationalize DRod’s failures. Wow. Poor, bitter Hugo. 24-30 in conference. Fired from his last two jobs.
Keep spinning Hugo.
Lol.

Rich never would have considered coming back, as he thoroughly loved Arizona (the state and UofA).

Tucson is a large progressive city and much nicer than Morgantown in every respect.

However, Rich likely now would return to WVU, as his options are very limited. WVU would take him back in a heartbeat. WVU begged him not leave and has never had any success since he left.

I doubt WVU would take him back in a heartbeat. I think WVU knows that if they re-hired him a sizable segment of the fanbase would revolt and there's just no point in provoking that. Holgs is going to be around for a couple years if not longer and if Holgs does leave then WVU will have plenty of people wanting to coach there, especially hungry young guys looking to make a name.

Considering the way RR was fired from this last job (not just the not-great winning but also the scandal) and that he's no long a hot young coach (mid 50s) I don't think he's going to get another job the caliber of WVU or Arizona or Michigan.

When Bama and Michigan were after RR, RR had the leverage with respect to WVU and he used to maximize benefit to himself instead of being decent about it. He didn't apologize left and right for upsetting people, like Huggs did when he left K-State, rather he screwed people over. But now the tables have turned. It's the classic case of, treat people nice on the way up because someday you might be coming down.

Wrong in so many levels. There is no way, absolutely no way, WVU would ever try to get him back here. He’s not welcome back.

Rich isn't returning to WVU.
Rich did a remarkable job while he was at WVU.
Michigan minefields got him.
Arizona is on Rich.
If Oliver Luck had been AD at WVU when Rich was here, Rich still would be here and WVU would be a top 25 team every year.
I will be forever grateful to Rich for the good he did for my alma mater. He was an asshat on his way to Michigan, but hate makes you and not your target the victim.

I cheer for Dana because he's coaching my alma mater.

Huggins makes me happier than Dana, though. I love the guy. Keep a photo of the 2 of us together at all times.

There is no guarantee Luck would have kept him. There is no guarantee Rod would still be winning at WVU. There is no guarantee Rod would have stayed.
