You think this just happened? I know you have a hard time with WV history....but...I think you know better.

Yes, it did. Can you not f'ucking read? LOL!

When Republican Gov. Jim Justice said at his second State of the State address Jan. 10 that all state employees would be getting a 1 percent raise, many West Virginia educators thought the increase was not nearly enough and considered it a slap in the face. To complicate matters further, senators have since proposed bills that could increase Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) premiums and put teachers' seniority on the chopping block.

The article you posted mentioned the last time teachers went on strike, 1990. Wasn't that Gaston Caperton as governor and a D controlled legislature? The reason for the strike then was a 1% increase in pay.

When you promise employees a 1% raise, that's fine.....but then counter that with a 2-5% increase in health insurance premiums.......that is a slap in the face.

The issue with WV teacher compensation was an issue LONG....LONG....before the Republicans had total control in WV. There is plenty of blame to go around for the problems we now face in WV.

The Republican legislators here in the EP have long fought for regional teacher pay because of the huge disparity between MD and WV teachers pay. Tomblin blocked them at every attempt......we'll see if that now changes.

But they now have the opportunity to fix it and are not - in fact, they are making it worse.

I understand your pain ...we negotiate out contract every 3 years we have received raises just to watch Obama care take all of it ...i have not received no more than a .10cent raise on my paycheck In 4 years ...well until the tax cuts ...& I'm sure health insurance will figure away to take it

Can you back that up with a link?
No.....it would take a lot of research that I'm not willing to do. I've lived here for 15 years and the issue has always been around. If it makes you feel better...the Democrat legislators from the EP have ALSO fought for regional teacher funding.

Teachers should probably be paid more...but I want better results too.

Job opportunities = better results...........my kids went through public schools and received a very good public education, and are very successful. I had no problems with my local public school and the education they provided. However, when there are no jobs, what motivates kids to do their best?

At whose fault? And if private schools had the same regulations and restrictions and testing placed on it, I'm sure the results would be similar. Again, you speak as if every public school fails. It doesn't. My kids' public school was great.

Never said all public schools are bad but the overall results speak for themselves which is why we need to give parents more freedom to choose.

OR.......lift the regulations, restrictions, oversight, and testing demands on public schools? Just a thought......I'm 100% against my tax $$$ going to fund someone else's kids going to a private school......sorry.

Their parents, teachers and self drive. Most graduating high schoolers have little knowledge of the local job market and most serious ones probably don't care as college is the next step for them.
