Running Grier on 3rd and a foot? That injury looks season ending.
I'm not going to play monday morning qb on the play call as we have scored many TD's on qb running plays in the past 20 years without incident and so has many other teams that run a similar offense with an athletic qb. Injury is unfortunate as is every injury. No one is more upset about the injury than the coaching staff. It is football. Now on Spivital outside of that play, I'm not impressed as a play caller.
I think that was an option play. Grier thought he could make the corner. I've been watching football for about 4 decades. That's the first time I've seen a broken finger on a dive for the corner.Running Grier on 3rd and a foot? That injury looks season ending.
I think you’re right, read option. And Crawford was untouched going in. I bet DH is regretting the new running role of his passer. Remember he said long ago that he hates having QBs run, and maybe he’ll do less of that now.I think that was an option play. Grier thought he could make the corner. I'm not 100% behind Spavital. Dana's a better play caller in my mind. Faulting that play call for that injury is Monday morning coaching.
You are no longer allowed to attend our games. It's an injury risk I'm not comfortable taking.I might add, that play happened right in front of me and I saw him grab hos hand in pain right after. So happens Trickett’s concussion vs KSU happened right in front of me too. Creepy

Here is my issue with the play. With my wife and God as my witnesses I screamed for for Crawford to bounce outside on 2nd down because that far end anticipate the "Spavital Special" dive up the middle and pinched hard. Had Crawford bounced outside, he moon walks into the end zone. On third down I was calling to run wide. The naked boot was there. The problem was that we obviously don't practice that play much becuase Grier took a very wide turn and therefore was slow to the corner. Just toss the ball to Crawford and he waltzes in. We could have named the ball off and scored off that tackle. Instead we run a play that ends our season
I agree with you about them overturning that call. Unless they had an angle that wasn't shown on TV, there's no indisputable evidence that the ball didn't break the plane before Grier lost control. Every replay I saw was at an angle, and the ball was close enough that it wasn't conclusive where the ball was in relation to the goal line. You had a ref on the line that called it a TD on the spot.I don' think it was read option, I think it was a pure fake.
I've not been happy with our OC the second half of the season and that play was a tipping point. It may not only cost Grier the season, could cost him a career.
That being said, that call should have never been overturned. There was no way, based on the angles shown on TV, to provide without a doubt that the nose of the ball wasn't on that front line before he lost control.
I told my son after VT, this is a season where we could win 10 games or lose 10 games.

That was a huge swing in the game. The refs changed the momentum. It still would have been a struggle to win the game with that 1 TD lead early, but that TD would have at least given us a little buffer and maybe relaxed Chugs a bit if he knew he was playing with a lead. And that was a play that could have swung the entire game. He scores there and who knows what happens.
I still hated the play call though.
With what I saw....the overturn was correct. I looked clear to me the ball was out before he hit the goal line and the touchback call was correct. Tony also said the call was correct.I agree with you about them overturning that call. I won't deny that I might have some homerism in my analysis of the call. I'd like to see a shot down the line on that play. I didn't see one. With all due respect to you and Tony Caridi, neither of you were on the goal line on that play. The ref who was there, straddling the line, called it a TD. Maybe the booth had a look at the play that I haven't seen, but you have to have conclusive evidence that the call was wrong in order to reverse it. Nothing I saw was conclusive. I think the correct call would have been for them to say that the play stands as called, not that the call was confirmed. With what I saw....the overturn was correct. I always listen to Tony and the coach. They both have access to replay looks that are not shown on the TV broadcast. Their first inclination was that the Ref made the proper call. They changed their opinion after looking their replay views. Believe me.....I wish it had not been overturned.I won't deny that I might have some homerism in my analysis of the call. Regardless of how the call could have gone, this was going to be a hard win without Grier. I don't think that call stole the game from us.
