I wouldn't go as far as saying they have a chance to win the conference.

What they do have is a competitive team who will win at least 8 games this year and forward momentum in building a football program.

I wish KU could use them as an example.

At this moment every Big XII school needs to adopt the mantra that it is the Big XII against the world.
That winning is keeping this conference alive or winning will keep your university as a P5 team if the Big XII dies.

Next ten years if teams like Iowa State win 9 games a year then they may have a chance to join another conference

Basketball wins do not mean much. Football drives the car now and the distance between football and basketball is growing even More

The fact that Iowa State, at midseason, has the same mathematical chance to play in the Big 12 conference championship game as Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia tells you all you need to know about what a crazy, cockeyed season it is.

Sure is fun. If WVU can survive it.

If Iowa State won the Big12 it will set the conference back once again. Just in a different way. This year TCU needs to finish undefeated then represent well in the playoff. Anything short of that will promote Big12 national bashing.

TCU needs to create a national brand but so does Iowa St.

TCU's story can be sold. TCU is easily a feel good underdog story. More than anywhere else in the world the US loves the underdog and Cinderella stories.
TCU was kicked out of the car one night deep in the pines of East Texas after a long night of drinking with their fellow SWC universities.
I am not sure who kicked them out of the car as there were 6 of them in the backseat but when the SWC arrived in the Big XII only two remained in the back seat.
TCU didn't cry. They became tougher and meaner than the others in that car that night. Guess what they are back in the Big XII car trying to take over the driver's seat.

I for one am glad that one of the Big XII football doormats is getting their act together. Right now Iowa St makes 5 schools in the top 20. Nothing left on our schedule is going to be easy. Glad to see them pulling their program up, we ALL need to take car of business the first three weeks of the season and none of this would be a concern.

If they could expand the playoff to 8 teams and give each P5 Championship winner an automatic berth we would all be talking playoff and still having a shot to win it all.

i would be extremely happy for their fanbase if that were to happen...talk about long-suffering

Yes, we can put our new championship trophy right alongside our championship trophy from 1908 !!! Freaking 1908!!!

Man, what a logjam. We could have TCU, OU, WV, and ISU all tied at 4-1 after Saturday. Could is the key word.

I'd rather be in a conference where every team has a chance every game that one in which the weak sisters are cannon fodder for the few at the top week after week. That's SO boring.

NOTHING is boring about Big 12 games. Hell, Ohio State is easier to rip into than Iowa State. Just ask Oklahoma.

Old enough to remember Pat White against Louisville?

Dude, that was 2005. Only 12 years go. Geez, anyone older than a teenager would remember that one.

It's been 65 years since I was a teenager and my memory is kind of shaky from time to time since my 85th birthday is coming up November 5, but I still remember THAT game. And I will remember the 18-point deficit to 11-point victory over Texas Tech till I'm 100, or dead.

Stop obsessing over the Ohio State Buckeyes, bitter old man. As for Iowa State, the Cyclones lost to Iowa, which has a 1-3 B1G record. Iowa State also lost to Texas, a team that Maryland whipped in Austin. Ohio State destroyed Maryland by the score of 62-14. See what I did there? The Transitive Property doesn't work out for you nearly as well as you pretend that it does.

Still embarrassed by getting into a national playoff that you had no business being in, are you? How many points did tofu score in that one?

I'll give Ohio State this: They have a nut for its mascot. Very appropriate. Is that you in disguise?

I prefer the guy with the coonskin cap firing off his weapon after another of many WVU scores.

There are 5 teams in the Big 12 that could play for the Big 10 title with that creampuff schedule of sidestepping the better teams instead of taking on all comers the way that the Big 12 does. Hell, Oklahoma would be undefeated and #2 to Alabama if it played Ohio State 12 times.

I'd be fine with the Cyclones winning the conference (if we can't). They have spent more than their fair share in the bottom feeder position. Matter of fact, I really wouldn't have a problem with anyone winning it other than Baylor. I can't stand them or 98% of their fans (that remaining 2% makes up for a lot of the 98%'s BS admittedly).

So now you've lowered the bar even more by insulting the parents of every mentally challenged child in America. You must be so proud. If anyone had any doubt about how low you are on the humanity bar, you dispelled it with that one insult. Your parents must be so proud of you. Or maybe they didn't teach you as well as my parents, including my coal miner father, did.

Big 12 football is the best and most entertaining in America. Even ESPN says so. Now if you and Donald Trump want to compare IQs, I'd be happy to put my certifiably genius IQ against yours.

CFE's obsession over, and insane jealousy of, The Ohio State University continues unabated. I still remember your incessant sobbing on this board and BGN after the Buckeyes had been selected for the first CFP, then disbelief as Ohio State, with a third-string QB, thumped your hero Nickie Saban, then the Ducks to claim the very first CFP National Championship. Your tears are succulent, CFE!!!

Have a nice day.

It's hard to take anyone seriously from a bean curd school.

By the way, it's only tofu because little ol' Ohio University trademarked the "Ohio" logo and insecure school in Columbus retaliated by coming up with tofu as its initials.

It makes my beans curdle to think that a bully would be so intimidated by the smallest kid in the state.

Now, on to real football. The Big 12.

Compare this lineup to what the overrated Big 10 has, other than Penn State beating Ohio State (I'll give you that). Not even close.

I am quite familiar with Ohio University, from which I also have a degree, so save the lecture, Pops. Both O.U. and tOSU are more highly rated than your alma mater, which must chap your buttocks. The B1G features the best match-up of the college football weekend, and it isn't close. I can't wait to see two Top 6 schools battle it out at the 'shoe, as you're watching average Kansas State destroy putrid Kansas.

It’s really a shame that ISU lost to Iowa. They were up late and one first down would have salted it away. Instead Iowa had a 40-yard pass and run(which should have about a five yard gain) and it went to OT

You fella's seem to forget one thing. If Notre Dame gets through the season with just one loss, they've got a good shot at it, they're going to grab a playoff spot. That means at least two P-5 champions playing in the now new "They don't count" bowls the playoffs created. The cry for an expanded playoff system will be heard from coast to coast.

Forget about Iowa State, Ohio State, Penn State, etc... If the Domers win out they screw the playoff pooch for the conferences who mine them for all they're worth, as there will only be three spots left for five league champions.

Yet another reason to hate Notre Dame.

Since EVERY year of the national playoffs there has been only ONE undefeated team and THREE 1-loss teams and there are FIVE regular season games left plus the conference title games, everything is premature speculation. But it helps get us from WVU game to WVU game. It DOES seem like more than a week between games because they are so much fun to watch.
