WVU out-gained TCU, 508 yards to 406.

WVU had TWELVE more first downs than TCU, 28-16.

Grier had 366 passing yards to Hill’s 188, a difference of 178. Grier threw 3 TD passes; Hill, 1.

Even though TCU has #1 defense in country, Gibby’s WVU defense held TCU to 102 fewer yards than TCU gained and held TCU to 60 fewer yards than Oklahoma State did. David Long’s return made a major difference. If Long and Grimm had played against Virginia Tech I’m convinced WVU would have won.

Justin Crawford ran for 111 yards.

The bad news:

TCU scored quickly after Grier was intercepted.

TCU’s Adam Nunez punts were downed at the WVU 1, 3, 5 and 6. That negated so much of WVU's yardage advantage because of the LONG fields.

Offensive interference call against Sills seemed suspect.

Blocking defender into our kick returner, causing fumble, was devastating.

Analysis:

After 2 Big 12 games, there are only 2 unbeaten teams in the standings.

There will be NO unbeaten Big 12 teams in the standings, so WVU still can finish in first place by winning out. I don't see a team in the Big 12 that my alma mater can't beat, with Grier and friends and Gibby's defensive genius.

We aren’t going to win the Big 12 lol. We will be lucky if we win 8 games. I’m thinking 7-5 or 8-4. About par for Dana. I don’t see a team in the Big 12 as a sure win. That’s not good.

Can WVU still make the playoff? I like our chances to win the national title if we can get to the playoff.

Just like the Tech game, rack up yards without points to show for it. The TCU punter did well, but our inability to field a punt and/or adequately block on returns made him look super human. I'll admit I was surprised by the defense, but what ultimately doomed WVU is the same crap that has plagued this team all season. I love my alma mater and want them to succeed, but I'm a realist and think you are off in the clouds thinking WVU had a chance at the playoff. I also think you are way off base in thinking WVU has a chance am to win the BIG XII based upon the evidence presented through 5 games. And if I'm ultimately wrong in the end, you will be right based upon blind optimism and a lucky guess.

I still like Dana and don’t believe we’re at the point of needing to consider a coach change. But it’s alarming that wvu can’t get wins against ranked teams. 9 in a row is a problem.
It’s not enough to play them close. This is major college football. Established Program.
We play to win. Period. Holgs and staff are being paid big money to win. Bottom line.
Producing wins is his job. Wvu needs to start winning some of these games where the other team is favored.
It seems what needs changed is
1. We’re unprepared early - too many slow starts and the make too many mental errors (has to come from coaching) and
2. We still don’t have enough talent or depth. Either somehow the recruiting must get better and or staff must develop the kids more. Probably a little of both.
How can that be solved? Hey, if I knew I’d be a college coach. I hope Dana can figure this out.

Is Antifa an Italian dish, like Sophia Loren?

By the way, we're only 2 TDs away from being undefeated. Baylor would trade places with us in a heartbeat.

Obviously, I would prefer a W over the better stats. But the two losses have shown that WVU is close to being a Top 10 team.

I agree we have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot like Barney Fife. The Texas Tech game would be a good time to begin that. Since it's in Mountaineer Field and I'm not dead yet, I'll be there.

Hopefully, Barney Fife will not be there.

And what's so bad about being optimistic and a cheerleader? Sure beats being Grumpy. That's just Dopey.

WVU could easily run the table.

But, if we have another reffing accident ala TCU (see 2012 also), it won't happen.

Depends on what the Big12 needs.

This was a turning point game for this team, they looked like the better unit against the 8th ranked squad in the nation. Long almost laid out Hill on that long run, Sills pushed back equally on the corner but got wrongly flagged, and Bailey was holding the ball with his foot down on that interception, yep, all spilled milk, but any of those plays would have changed the game dramaticly. This team is improving, building depth and staying healthy so they have a real chance of finishing well, they just cannot listen to any of the negative jackies out there who'll go silent again once WVU pounds out another 10-win season. The only thing I'd like to see are a few trick plays to get some speedsters in space but the play-calling has been solid imo.

So you would be happier if WVU lost to Virginia Tech and TCU by 35 or 40 points? Not me.

The close losses tell me that WVU is a better team than Boston College, Arkansas and Oklahoma State, whofared worse against VT or TCU than my alma mater.

If you want to be a sourpuss YeahButHead, go ahead.

I think the WVU glass is 7/8ths full, not half-empty. Maybe that's why I'm so happy and healthy at 84 11/12 because I prefer to laugh and be happy than to be Grumpy, which is a Dopey thing to do.

You are really reaching...again. Not happy when the Mountaineers lose period. Not happy when the Mountaineers have breakdowns on offense, defense or special teams that cost a game. Your answer is strange and your extrapolation odd...to say the least. Then again, you have shown a propensity to be focused on stats not results. Woulda. Coulda. Didn't.

Well, would you or not be happier if WVU lost big instead of showing it is pretty near equal to both teams. Stop deflecting. Answer the question!

If only they would expand to minimum 8 teams with P5 Conference Championship winners getting an automatic bid. That would re-ignite the fans and teams who could conceivably lose 3 games find their way into their Conference Chanpionship game and somehow make the playoffs. Our focus would be entirely on winning the Big 12.

Instead it is like a National beauty contest and teams who have lost twice already are just thinking about a bowl.

On the money. Only 4 teams have a "successful" season ... till they lose in the national playoffs. Why not cancel the season after a team loses 3 games? Makes about as much sense as labeling all the other Power 5 teams "failures" because they don't make the playoffs. Seriously? If WVU wins out my alma mater is not a "failure" in my book.

Yet in another thread you post that "being entertaining" is the most important thing for WVU football (because of DH.) So, by your definition, being unsuccessful yet entertaining is more preferable than being in the playoffs and being successful? Trying to figure out your thought process.
