That's down right funny. The ACLU gets beat up by both sides. The right says they are anti religion, but they have defended individual rights to religious expression while fighting against government expressions of the same. The left rails against them for defending "hate speech". The truth is that the ACLU represents those who truly uphold the Constitution. Most politicians say that they do until it is inconvenient for them to.
I don't think mule-eer is current on the ACLU's activities. His assessment was correct only a few days ago. They would come to the aid of every kind of crazy American if their constitutional rights were being denied. Heck, they would even step up for sane hetero-sexual white males. They've now officially apologized for the white child with the flag. More importantly, the ACLU has stepped away from the white supremacy crap and will no longer include them in their US Constitutional world. They can do what they want, but the last few days will mark a difference in their stance heretofore. That's down right funny.

They don't take every case that they are asked to take. I'll agree with that. You haven't researched this at all if you think they always fall on one side of this. I don't agree with the politics of everything they step in to defend, but they look at the cases from a Constitutional point of view - whether the rights of the individual were stepped on or not despite who the individual might be or might represent. True. They do pretty much steer clear of 2nd amendment cases. If I'm not mistaken, they steer clear of both sides of 2nd amendment issues though.I just wish they applied that logic and standard to the 2nd Amendment more.
Somewhat odd that the ACLU, whose main thrust seems to be 1A, supports groups that want to suppress religion in public areas. They also stand with many groups of questionable/objectionable motives such as NAMBLA. Just looking at their sources of funding reveals plenty about their overall agenda, imo.True.
