There are many examples of socialistic failures in this world. I think Venezuela is cited lately for a variety of reasons. That Country's collapse is current and is especially abhorrent compared to the average socialistic break down. Also, many US politicians on the left were pointing to Venezuela just a few years ago as surpassing us on social issues. One hopes Bernie and Co., Inc. were expecting better results.
I'm sure you would agree...maybe not...that there are obviously varying degrees in which socialism could go? Where I sit right now is basically socialist light...and has been for years and years. I don't feel neutered since birth...it's not perfect by any stretch but it ain't Chavez either...

That's why it's not cited so much other than a maligned healthcare system in an otherwise functional system of government. The degree of functionality is a matter of opinion for Canadians and, to a lesser extent, the world at large.
True enough but maligned healthcare? Meh...not so much maligned as it is complained about having to pay for through taxes. The system itself works quite well in my experience of 44 years...do some take advantage? Yes. People will ALWAYS take advantage...however no political party would f#ck with it so much as to end it, not even the most far right Con...it is that cherished literally. It is a fabric of society here with or without thought...a single payer system would actually save $ imo for you guys, the difficulty is implementing it on such a massive scale, that is a big task...well that and HMO's...
'Not so much' but to some degree anyways. I didn't just pull the term out of my butt. I'm not knowledgeable enough to break down Canadian's percentage of favor or disfavor and the causes of either sentiment, be it taxes or quality of care. I do know there is medical tourism in the US, and India of all places, for peoples of Canada and other Countries who have the money and don't want to wait in line. Maybe one can show up in Canada with a suitcase of money and go to the front. I don't know.
