Well, you are not a very honest or educated fellow. The Black Diamond Trophy is not in your Trophy Case, in fact, nothing is in that case that has any meaning. The BDT was taken back to the Charleston offices of the Friends of Coal organization that sponsored the trophy and it sat on the secretary's desk for about a year and then she put it in storage and in that time they think they have lost it. I called them a couple of years about this matter. They may have since found it, but they did not seem to concerned about the status one way or the other.
Because the Friends of Coal sponsored the trophy as long as VT and WVU were in the Big East, the last official game scored on it was October 2, 2004. The game the following year on October 1st, when VT was in the ACC was not covered by the Friends of Coal Black Diamond Trophy. Friends of Coal have no interest in resuming their sponsorship and thus there is no longer a Black Diamond Trophy and has not been for 13 years.
The upcoming game will just be another game, nothing more. VT no longer matters to WVU.
