I am thinking about getting a jump on hotel reservations for the Penn State away game at Maryland. It will be my first game at College Park.

I was hoping to get some feedback on your game day experience, atmosphere etc to get an idea of what to expect. Any recommendations on where to stay, restaurants, bar, things to see and or areas to avoid.

Thanks!!

Well this is a WVU fansite, but having gone to quite a few WVU @ Maryland games, my experience has always been to drive in and leave after. As for the experience, Maryland fans Used to view WVU as their football rival (according to the WAshington Post), but their fans fold quickly afterwards and have more testosterone beforehand than needed. I guess that's true everywhere.

Sorry to trouble you folks. I heard WVU travelled well and thought you might have made the trip a few times and have some good pointers.

I work with a big WVU fan and all he will say is Maryland fans are the worst and DON'T GO. Something about narrowly avoiding getting arrested and almost having his car rolled.

Thanks anyway!

No problem.

I've seen some of the biggest Aholes at Byrd you can find, and I've met some good Terp fans. Bout the same everywhere-including Happy Valley and Mountaineer Field. You got good and you got some bad. Only had 1 real baad experience and WVU won that night in a rout so quickly forgotten.

The Maryland fans always talked so much when the Fridge was there. And for about 3 seasons, they had it rolling. Then it stopped or went off the rails and That fanbase folded like a newspaper. They loved football too much for the ACC but are behind the B1G curve.

Btw the worst experience I've ever had on a road trip was at USF in 07. That school's fanbase was as a group the rudest group of people I've ever encountered.

Just stay in DC. College Park is a **** hole. Couple new hotels in Navy Yard by Nats Park would be good. Easy Metro access to CP. Or, stay in Maryland at Gaylord National Harbor. You'd have the new 1.5 billion $ MGM next door.

Stay in Baltimore or DC. College Park is different than State College or Morgantown as there isn't much to do on campus. There are a couple bars around like Bentley's or Cornerstone but overall College Park itself isn't anything special. Not to it is in a ****** area which is more or less a ghetto.

I'd imagine the tailgating scene will be about 50% Penn State fans as it is WVU fans when the Mountaineers played there. Penn State has a ton of alum in area as I am sure you know. The football stadium pretty much sucks. I would recommend going to a UMD/Penn St basketball game in college park. Terp fans take bball much more seriously.
