My brother and I were there when we started, due to injury, Carter and Miles as freshmen. We should have won the game. Yes, we choked a bit in the late second half, but a phantom call on Dax on an offensive rebound (happened right in front of me and Dax got the board and never touched the KU player, whistled anyway).

I think we can beat KU in Kansas. This is the weakest KU inside game I have seen in a long, long time. I had no idea how weak they are inside. They are also very shallow on the bench. I would press them to tire them as we did last evening. But Huggs made his point at halftime. We have to defend the 3 point line, even when they drive to the basket. They live off of 3's. Play Konate a lot, he is our best rim protector to help guard against those drives. Watkins was MIA last evening, but he too can protect the rim.

If they penetrate, we must stay on the wings and not let them kick it out for easy 3's. Their inside guys can't win the game for them. Our bigs aren't great (I think Konate will be) but their bigs are not any better and they have less depth. Their two starting guards are better (except for Carter), but we are deeper, even though Myers was MIA last evening. Jackson is a monster and likely one and done if he continues to hit his outside shots like he did last evening. But Esa, not nearly as athletic as Jackson, is tough to defend when he drives it and hits his outside shots as well. He is a BIG 3 at 6'8" and thick.

Press to tire them out and get the occasional turnover. If they get past our initial defender and drive it, the D must protect the wings. Use our inside shot blockers to defend. We have 15 fouls to give and KU does not shoot free throws well.

Thoughts?

Last night showed that we played better half court defense. I think we turned it over as much as they did and they got a lot of open shots, made them too. For us to go far, we have to play a little more disciplined in our half court defense and not chase as much.

Last night proved we can play with anyone if Esa shows up and we shoot foul shots as a team. Huggs has possibly gotten their attention that you have to practice and dedicate time to foul shooting. Don't know who invited Esa back to the game, but he is capable of these games most nights. He has been too passive and he is too good to not be more aggressive with his game.
