Dems can't reconcile Harry Reid

The former Majority leader did his party no favors when he broke years of Senate tradition requiring a 2/3rds majority vote on major legislation...and instead he decided to go "nuclear" by changing Senate rules & requiring only a simple majority vote through the budget reconciliation process to get legislation or other regulatory reforms & Judicial appointments approved.

Republicans warned him at the time that the tables would one day be turned and the Democrats would find themselves in the minority without the ability to filibuster or stall legislation or Judicial appointments they disagreed with because they could also be voted down by a simple one vote majority under Reid's revised Senate rules.

The so called "Reid rule" has now reared its ugly head for Dems, who now find themselves powerless to stop Republican repeals of the ACA through regulatory relief in the form of budget reconciliations which do not require a 2/3rds majority. They are also applying this rule to Judicial appointees for the lower Federal Courts like the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in D.C. which Reid packed with Lefties. Now Republicans can use budget reconciliation to either break up that Court, or add to its membership to offset the Liberal advantage with Conservative Justices who hear many of the appeals on regulatory issues.

So Obama's signature legislation is set to be dismantled piece by piece, as well as many more of his initiatives which were not passed into Law, but simply by Executive order and funded through the various alphabet agencies through the budget reconciliation process which now can easily be undone or simply de-funded through the same budget reconciliations, and the Dems can't stop any of it.

It's almost as if Obama has not there for the past 8 years... so he and the Dems can thank none other than one Mr. Harry Reid for the power he robbed from his own party to block Republican efforts to erase the hapless Obama legacy.

Thanks Harry, nice work!

I have no knowledge on how Washington works but I can't understand how a guys like Reid and Gingrich ever rise to power in Congress. You can add Diane Feinstein and Mitch McConnell to that list. All tools.

And the Dems and Reid had to know it. The states in the country are most red. It's logical to assume that red states would mostly elect GOP senators. So the Senate, like the House is likely to stay Republican. They had to know by nuking the filibuster, they were dooming themselves for the eventual consequences.

If the Dems decide to filibuster a SCOTUS nominee, look for McConnell to nuke the filibuster for SCOTUS picks. Reid already set the precedent.

They're so arrogant, they never thought they'd ever be in the minority again PAX.

Just like Hillary figured there was no way she was going to lose the election to that "idiot" windbag Trump...and just like Obama thinks he's leaving the country in better shape through his so called "legacy" for generations to come. Just like the MSM still thinks people actually believe whatever they report.

They're all delusional.

They like looking at themselves in the mirror believing they're really as beautiful as they see themselves.

It's essentially a fight over a big pile of money that gets collected down there in D.C. and who gets to spend it. That's all it really is, they don't give a damn about us or where the money comes from or who it really belongs to.

Get elected to stay elected...that's all they really care about...both parties.

I watched O'Reilly a few evenings ago and he had a few historians on to grade Obama. One conservative and one liberal. The conservative gave him a D. He cited foreign policy failures across the globe, an anemic economy, losses of over 1,000 Dem seats across the country, a much more divided nation, and so forth.

The liberal, John Meacham, gave Obama a B. What planet is he living on? Our foreign policy is a disaster and everyone knows it. His only signature domestic achievement, Obamacare, is soon to be gone. He ruled by executive order which will soon be gone. His massive regulations will soon be gone. His Paris Climate accords will be gone. He hated fossil fuels which will experience an immense resurgence. No one has hope any more. And change did occur but bad change isn't very good. Race relations are the worst I have seen since the 60's. And his lib gave him a B?

The problem is simple actually. Nobody cares about the United States anymore. They all care about their self interests and the interests of their party.

Bingo. One of my grad school professors at Oklahoma had worked as a campaign advisor to several politicians up to the U.S. Senate level, and his great insight was that politicians are concerned about only two things: their election, and their re-election.

First of all the fact you were watching O'Reilly tells me you aren't very supportive of Obama or his agenda. Second, when he was elected, the blowhard McConnell publicly stated that the Senate would not cooperate. Once the Dems lost the house, nobody cooperated with Obama. Hamstrung from the start. It was amazing that Obamacare ever passed.

McConnell: We need to be honest with the public. This election is about them, not us. And we need to treat this election as the first step in retaking the government. We need to say to everyone on Election Day, “Those of you who helped make this a good day, you need to go out and help us finish the job.”

National Journal: What’s the job?

McConnell: The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.

National Journal: Does that mean endless, or at least frequent, confrontation with the president?

McConnell: If President Obama does a Clintonian backflip, if he’s willing to meet us halfway on some of the biggest issues, it’s not inappropriate for us to do business with him.

That doesn't back up his statement. That was 2 years into Obama's presidency, not day 1.

Your post is factually inaccurate. McConnell made his comment in 2010 just prior to the mid-term elections. And you knowledge of history is lacking. When Obama was elected, the Dems controlled the House and had 60 Senators after a GOP senator defected to the Dems (Arlen Specter). He stated that he did not need to the GOP to pass Obamacare. He did not need the GOP to pass the stimulus (that didn't stimulate). Then Ted Kennedy died and an election in Mass. was held. Lo and behold, Scott Brown, a Republican, won. And now, Obama did not have the 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. So the Dems resorted to shenanigans to pass Obamacare through reconciliation. That is why the law is a mess.

Here is Obama in 2009, when he had the majority regarding GOP idea on the stimulus: Essentially he rejected their ideas and said "I won the election." Not that is bi-partisanship, right?

I remember a statement along the lines of, "Republicans can come along for the ride, but they need to move to the back of the bus". The one term statement came long after that.

It's much the same as folks being influenced to vote for a person based (often times, solely) on their gender, skin color, what State they call home, what Church of which they may or may not be a member, etc. Obama was never vetted as a potential leader. He had never been an executive in any type business. He lacked the total tool case of skills needed to be an effective President. He demonstrated what a weakling he was by the way he approached the challenges he faced and failed in his attempts to resolve. But, look at his skin color. Wow, the first of his color to be President. That was enough for so many. Pitiful. Please do not counter by noting that Trump has never been a politician. Granted and for this many are very thankful. He is a very successful executive and has made a fortune leading others and getting done things that needed be done. No comparison whatsoever.

The corrupt media elected Obama. They shielded him, protected him, lauded him. They dismissed very troubling stories (e.g. his close relationship with the unrepentant domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers), his 20 year membership in a radical, racist church that applauded 9/11, the LA Times refusal to provide a speech Obama made lauding a Palestinian terrorist, etc. He had no real experience. No private sector experience. No real legislative experience. He voted present over 300 times.

If Trump did even a fraction of this, the media would be relentless in their denigration of him.

Pretty much backs up everything the right has been saying while the left has been all pissy eyed about Obama not being able to dictate policy.

This was the chief strategy Dems used to prevent opposition to Obama.

"You don't support him just cause he's Black" That was their clarion call if anyone so much as dared to criticize or oppose Obama during his 1st two years.

You were called a "racist" and most Republicans ran away with their tail between their legs like whipped Puppies whenever they got accused of that ugly charge just for philosophically opposing Obama.

Sh*t I got called a Racist and I'm Black! Then I'd get "Oh...well you ain't nuthin' but a 'ol 'Uncle Tom' anyway" ...or "well you just a stupid boot lickin' Oreo"

Really?

All that from the compassionate tolerant Left don't you know.

And this goes back to what you were saying about people not caring about America anymore. President Obama will be leaving office in one week. He has been President for 8 years. For 6 YEARS you have incorrectly thought that from day 1 of Obama's presidency that the Republicans didn't cooperate at all with Obama. Your own link that you copy and pasted of McConnels words dispute what you say. What hurts our country more than anything is a low information voting base, that goes for Republicans, Democrats and Independents. It's sad and I don't see it improving anytime soon. Don't you feel a little ashamed?

Chief among the low information or "uninformed" is a fundamental lack of understanding for both our Constitution and Representative form of self Government, our free enterprise Capitalist economy or our American history especially in economics, or in Foreign policy of the last 100 years.
