I think he was always going to be Texas coach and was playing LSU against Texas to get a large contract.

I'm not sure what you mean since Herman to Texas has been out there since September. Orgeron to LSU was a strong possibility since he was named interim. Jimbo was their first choice, Herman their second. What's been reported as the mostly outcomes is what happened.
