Unless she had Ailes on the record as having harrassed her, the only possible cover Gretchen Carlson had for her lawsuit was Megyn Kelly......and the late word appears to be that Kelly may be her silver bullet to bring down the Dark Knight after all.

Now, we see if Kelly has the horsepower and guts to hang together now that the price of poker appears to be really going up. Ailes is a pretty tough hombre, but there are already rumors he's readying to step down from Fox.

I'll believe it when I see it..

She's confirmed it through a Fox Corporation release according to ABC News. It happened around 10 years ago when she first joined Fox News. Ailes is supposedly being moved to another position within the company.

I heard it as I was heading to the door for my weekly taco fix, I was a tad distracted.

So, let's suppose RA does depart......what can he do for Fox outside FNN ?? I know it's rumored he's got some sort of consulting deal already aligned with Rupert Murdoch, though who knows what that means (or how much it matters to anyone aside Ailes himself).

It's obviously no secret he's forever been close to Murdoch; perhaps not surprising as I suspect he's got every bit the track record (if not the accusations) for harassment as his protege Ailes. OK NEILMONT, GO AHEAD AND CALL ME A ********** BECAUSE I HAVE THE AUDACITY TO STATE SOMETHING ON AN OPINION BOARD I CAN'T PROVE I've also read Ailes isn't close to Murdoch's sons, who are directing the Company with their Dad......and are evidently interested in moving on from Ailes.

I therefore find myself wondering (or perhaps assuming) if moving on from Ailes now are the sons' way of preparing for a possible Trump WH. It therefore won't surprise me at all if a mandatory qualification for Ailes' replacement will be some manner of positive past history with Trump himself. It's also possible that Trump's middle finger to the party elites has damaged Ailes enough that he's viewed these days as old news anyway.

Meanwhile, if Ailes indeed has a $40 million separation package in hand awaiting a signature, it obviously begs the question as to whether he really need to do anything. Maybe he'll call Big XII football for FS1 with Gus Johnson. That also begs the question as to what kind of fallout Megyn Kelly is set to deal with at FNN, particularly with her on-the-air prime-time associates.

I suspect she's already signed her own death warrant with Hannity and, in particular, O'Reilly (who I assume she hasn't spoken with since the first debate). I also assume her agent has been shopping her to the industry from the moment she walked out of her meetings with Carlson's lawsuit investigators.

My niece interned for her a couple summers back. Spoke very very highly of her. She'll land on her feet no matter where she goes, and I think Fox News will make whatever move makes the most sense from a bottom line standpoint.

I think Megyn is safe. She is the best in the business as far as I'm concerned. Of course I'm biased as she is in my top 5.

I heard today it's contract renewal time for Kelly.

If true, you'd have to think FNN would be interested in keeping her, especially if (for whatever reason) Hannity and/or O'Reilly follow Ailes out the front door. Still, I can't help but think she's now battling both of them internally; will be interesting to see who survives over time. But if both those guys staying, I myself wouldn't bet too much she'll hang around.

Presumably, the networks and CNN would throw a lot at her right now. For a reason I can't exactly explain, I could see her at CBS transitioning into Lesley Stahl's role.....I have to believe they'd like to clear her from their decks...... and becoming (among other things) a lead correspondent on 60 Minutes. Who knows, maybe she's got enough juice right now to slam her way into replacing Scott Pelley at 630PM.

I also find myself assuming......and not that anyone will give two *****.....that Carlson will eventually wind up on CNN.

It now seems to me this whole harassment issue might actually be pretty common knowledge within the halls of FNN for Ailes to bail SO quickly, especially without (from what I can tell) even a single contrary statement attributed to him directly. I myself am therefore assuming. Rupert Murdoch himself may have recommended......or perhaps demanded......that Ailes clean out his desk right now.

Of course, given the fact the Carlson suit (I believe) targeted Ailes personally and not Fox, I'm not sure why RM would have knuckled under so quickly. And Gawd knows a guy like Murdoch has legally fought tougher opponents than Gretchen Carlson. Which begs the question if harassment may be FAR more widespread at Fox than is being reported, and Ailes is being scapegoated for ALL of them......and is falling on his sword to protect the network HE built (while accepting a nice package in return).
