Maybe if the GOP wins in 2016 we can start having heartwarming birth stories like that here in the United States.

Walker is all for it. Huckabee and Santorum too. God's plan was for that girl to become pregnant and have a child. The girl's body was rented out by God for 9 months. Not her call. It is written.

Maybe the dnc will try scare tactics like this for a campaign instead of legit issues since they offer nothing

So, are you disputing that the aforementioned GOP candidates don't approve of abortion even in the case of rape?
Lets focus on the 1 in a million situation and ignore the problem. Isnt that what you have to do when you have nothing else?

No, he's just exposing the very poor logic of a few extreme wingnuts that say not under ANY circumstances. An 11-year-old rape victim forced to give birth is the result of that very poor logic.

I love it when you post. [roll]

Actually, those children would be fairly safe if Hillary were elected. She has the Secret Service to keep tabs on Bill. Keep Bill and the NJ Senator away from that Fla Dr who provides them with young girls and plane ride, and all will be well.

Us silly liberals, what were we thinking? Of course all 11-year olds, raped by their own sick and twisted daddies, should be forced to give birth. It's God's plan, right?

I guess so according to several in the thread.

Haven't done any fact checking, but saw this weekend where Jeb Bush stepped in as governor and stopped 2 abortions in FL. One was a 13 year old that had been raped, and the other was a mentally challenged woman that had been raped.

Yes, let's force women to publicize their sexual relations, even if they were raped. I love the right-wing logic (and by love, I mean I'm being sarcastic).
Fortunately for us sane and logical folks, there is a Supreme Court of the United States that steps in when things are unconstitutional.

Honestly, because I don't know, when was the last time an elected GOP did anything to fight the RvW ruling?

That's an interesting thought, and I don't know the answer. If it's been quite a long time, then it shows that they only pay lip service to the issue and don't actually do anything. If every one of them have tried to do something then it shows it's more than lip service.

That's my point. People get all worked up just because a guy says he doesn't believe in something. I'm sitting there saying, ok, you have a belief, now ask the follow-up question of what are your plans regarding abortion if elected. The left in their constant need to create division and victims feeds on this low hanging ****. I don't know why the candidates allow themselves to be dragged down into it. Just say, I plan on focusing on the economy, the debt, and the defense of our nation against terrorism. Boom. Problem solved. Dems are now without an argument.

We might disagree a bit on who initiates these things. It seems to me that one side is no more guilty of it than the other. But that's irrelevant really, it happens and it shouldn't.

What I have in bold ... couldn't agree more. Those are the important things, and many of our other issues would be resolved by resolving those. Every single election cycle there is some other issue that is ultimately insignificant that becomes the overwhelming focus when it shouldn't be.

Is it chicken and egg? Do people talk about those issues because the candidates talk about them, or is it the people that bring them up and get hyper focused on them, thereby forcing the candidates to talk about them?

There are certainly candidates like Huckabee etc. that has it as a pillar of their platform. Same thing with the Gay marriage horseshit. Someone like Kasich, could absolutely give zero fvcks about either of the two. If he would have followed up and said that, he never has to address it again. As for where it starts, I think the outrage of comments to legitimate questions on this specific issue is coming from the left. You can see it on this board for who is starting all of the abortion topics.

Horseshit. It is the right who continues to make an issue of abortion. In their attempts to win the GOP nomination, which has devolved into a most crazy contest, each GOP candidate wants to show his bona fides to the kook fringe by declaring his pro-life position. And in an effort to out-wingnut the others, we now have Huckabee and Walker making their "no-exceptions" position. This is obvious pandering. Democrats accept that legal abortion is the law of the land and has been for 42 years. There is no need for democrats to bring up abortion except when wingnuts threaten to take that right away.

First of all, it's not a right. It's a legal procedure, but it's not a right.

2nd, what GOP in office is actually going after it. They are answering the question when it's posed to them. But who is actually doing something other than giving their opinion? Already acknowledged Huckabee as making it a pillar to his platform, but he isn't in a position to do anything.

Have you not been following the efforts of GOP congressmen to defund Planned Parenthood due that organization's performing abortions? The GOP-controlled House also passed a bill this year outlawing abortion after 20 weeks. Another bill was introduced to require doctors to try and help an aborted fetus survive. And these are just this year. How far am I required to go back?

If my understanding of the Planned Parenthood situation is up to date, I thought it was illegal for them to perform abortions using tax dollars. Considering the very real and very negative video's that came to light, I would assume that is a natural reaction. I may be off on that one though. I think they owe it to show how their Fed money is being used though, does to the penny. I mean, I have to do that with all of my contracts. Is 20 weeks early or late? Would that child be considered a life at that point? I'm not a doctor, I know you are. What is your opinion on a 20 week child. Would you consider an abortion at 20 weeks as an option if you were in the position of having to decide?

I think any discussions on de-funding planned parenthood are premature until this happens. If no Fed money is being used on abortions (I'm not exactly sure how you separate all of that out, does the Fed money go into a different account?) then by de-funding them you'd be robbing the people of the other 97% of the services they provide. Is there an organization that does more to prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place?

I agree, it may be premature. I'm not sure how they would track it but they certainly should be if receiving Fed money. I'm assuming they have to follow EVMS requirements due to the amount of funding they receive. However, as has been pointed out, if the money is going to overhead costs, that is in a way funding their ability to perform abortions. Personally, I'm just looking for some accountability of money.

As to your last point, I thought someone pointed to additional organizations that provide those same services minus the abortion aspect.

Hell, I'm not a real doctor. I just make people see better, heal their infections, treat their injuries, and prevent them for going blind. My best friend is a ob/gyn though. And a Republican. We've had some interesting conversations. Roe says third trimester unless like of mother or fetal abnormalities (I think). I think that is appropriate.
