I still watch Hogan's Heroes every now and then on MeTV at 10pm. Recently I looked up who was alive still and was sad to see only LeBeau was left. In researching some characters I saw most of them were Jewish especially the actors who played the Germans. Always thought that was a little ironic.... Alas we are all getting older and many of our childhood actors are now passing.

I was a huge huge HH fan as a kid, even bought entire show on vcr tapes in the early 90s. Crazy to think that the actors playing the Nazi characters were Jewish.

What an amazing story. Just to survive, let alone lead a life filled with accomplishments is remarkable….On a much lighter note, it seems like most character actors from that era appeared on Love Boat, Fantasy Island or both.

Klemperer would only play stupid Germans, never a good German. This is somewhat like Conrad Veidt, who would play only evil Germans such as Major Strasser in “Casablanca.”

Veidt was an interesting character. He was steadfastly ant-Nazi and because of his political stands and the fact that his wife was Jewish he fled Germany shortly after Hitler came to power. Among his first roles in British-produced films, he portrayed Jews.

You need to watch Judgement at Nurembourg . He played a very solid role as a character actor in that movie . Klemper was solid in that role .
