Ok, you can’t hold out “successfully”. You happy now?
I think that remains to be seen - let’s say he would have asked for an additional $600,000 instead of $1.6M. They may have done it. Someone, somewhere will do it and likely many have behind the curtains but the negotiation is handled before it becomes a crap show.

Not by holding out IMO. Coaches need to have some level of control over their players, they already have way too much unpredictability in their profession, they can’t have kids holding out right and left expecting more money.

Now, as I’ve said before, if he would’ve negotiated like a reasonable actor and displayed some patience and loyalty to UT. (After all he was making 2.4 million, they weren’t screwing him in anyway) He probably could’ve gotten more. But college coaches won’t tolerate kids holding out, cutting your *** is the only piece of leverage they have left and they don’t want this pandora box opened. That’s why Lanning call led Heupal, that’s why nobody gave him close to what UT was paying. Coaches want this **** to stop and they mostly all on the same page.

our starting RB successfully held out just this past offseason

happens pretty much constantly all over the country

Wrong again. Don’t lie to try and back your pointless argument. OUR RB DID NOT HOLD OUT, PERIOD. He entered the portal, communicated that to the coaches, and when he didn’t get a better offer he came back.

He did not cut off communication with coaches, he did not skip contractual NIL events and he did not skip practice. HE DID NOT HOLD OUT. There’s a reason every sports publication on the planet has characterized what Nico did as… “the 1st college player to hold out.”

And what did that hold out accomplish?
750 k less than he was originally making.
Going from a playoff team to a 5-7 team .
My guess players will probably not follow this model going forward if they want to get more money.

Well the kid is an idiot then if he thought he could handle his business like the pros who have contracts, salary caps, trade deadlines and regulated free agency. None of that exists in college and kids can jump ship whenever they want and schools can cut your *** whenever they want. If Nico’s camp was so **** all stupid to think the same standards will apply to NIL then they fvcked around and found out.

Even I predicted schools will not tolerate kids holding out, that is a bridge too far and the current rules (or lack thereof) do not supply kids with the leverage to do so.
I don’t think the kid is the idiot here. Probably his handlers were the ones who messed up.

EJ didn’t miss a single workout when he entered the portal?

Nobody has ever entered the spring portal and returned to their team with a new deal?

Yea sure okay

Yeah, they have. But that’s not holding out. Once again, there’s a reason every sports publication on the planet has characterized Nico as “the 1st college player to hold out”.

The two situations are not even remotely same. Apples to orangutans.

This has been fantastic to watch unfold. And to have to settle on the school his brother decommited from. What a disaster

If a person has “handlers” that automatically makes that person an idiot.

Bingo. And to be clear handlers and professional representation are not the same thing. Cause I’m sure someone will try to conflate and misrepresent your statement.

Michigan’s incoming 5* got (reportedly) 4 yrs $16M

That’s the new market, and why he did what he did

Extremely simple & straightforward

If he was a quitter he’d have mailed it in @ohiost after the game was in hand. Instead he was shattering his own helmet fighting for yards.
To me this is absolutely crazy that we are talking about a kid that hasn’t played a snap of college football making that much, and even Nico trying to make 4 mil is crazy to me… this is how the NFL was before implementing slot values in the draft, Nico and Michigan’s 5 star both would be making more, in their shorter season mind you, than what Purdy makes per year, and who would you say is a better QB at this point? Either if this two or Purdy

I wonder if God really wants to be associated with that mess.
Anytime they start talking about God you know the coach is reaching for the Tums. Funny how everyone always praises God when they leave. They need to start blaming the devil for their first choice.

So after 117 days in Fayetteville little brother Madden thinks he now has a stronger negotiating position? This should be fun.
