Sounds like Ekeler wants to use a rugby style punter and will be bringing in his own guy.

Why can’t we just line up and punt like everyone else?

Gimmicks, ducking competition, etc., aren’t a sustainable model for success

Not everyone else does. There are numerous teams that have rugby punters. This is Ek decision because he is in charge of ST . We punted regular under thecST teams coach you hated . You use every situation to spout your hatred for Rhule and the program . You are a clown but for some reason the gutless and spineless Mods won’t censor you like they do other OPs that talk nasty to Other OPs .

Have your opinion on Kong - but seriously censoring? What would you censor? What do they call a male version of Karen?

Dang I absolutely despise rugby style punters unless you get an aussie
I hate rugby style punting. They should put a rule in that when a punter takes off running, he loses all roughing the punter penalty protection. Any jackass that runs around with the ball back there deserves to get his clock cleaned.

What the hell do you know about special teams? Where have you coached?

Rhule hired Ekeler not top Kong.

You mean like this?

  • Punter's Initial Protection:
A punter is initially protected from roughing the kicker/punter penalties while within the tackle box and in the act of kicking or punting.

  • Losing Protection:
    The protection ends when:
    • The punter has had a reasonable time to regain their balance after potentially taking a few steps.

    • The punter carries or possesses the ball outside the tackle box before kicking or punting.

    • The punter carries or possesses the ball more than five yards behind the initial punt position.
  • Rugby Style Kick and Protection:
If a punter initiates a run, even a short step or two as part of a "rugby style" punt, they lose the same level of protection as they would if they were running with the ball for a longer distance.

  • Fouls Still Possible:
While the roughing the kicker/punter penalty might not apply, a punter who is running with the ball can still be penalized for other fouls, such as illegal contact, if the defense makes illegal contact.

I agree, if the punter moves past either guard not outside the tackles he’s fair game,

May the season get here quickly so you can slobber all over Haarberg again instead of questioning the moves of arguably the best special teams coach in college football before a single ball has even been snapped.

Almost half of FBS teams had an Australian punter last year. 10 in the big 10 (well, one was a kiwi).

7 of the last 11 Ray Guy winners are Australian. Both teams in the national championship game a couple months ago punted rugby-style.

If it’s a gimmick, it’s a good one.

Yes. And do not allow anybody on the punt team to leave the line of scrimmage early other than the gunners. It's stupid that a rubgy punter can run around back there and give his teammates time to get downfield. Use the NFL rules.

Stop making sense. It’s getting in the way of Kongs bad (always negative) takes.
