My wife works for State of Iowa. Better health insurance than us. We have no kids. Only thing that's going to sting is time off is great at the City, mainly because I can comp 80 Hours of OT to 120 hours off to go along with annual. There was one year I worked 1100 hours of OT and used 300 hours of comp leave.
I have no doubt you never do anything wrong at work but I also know that an area town near me used emails to trump up a reason to dump some long term employees who were a drag on their group health insurance costs. The city manager was an unbelievable *******. The one guy worked for the parks department and worked his *** off in all kinds of weather. They added some inconceivably stupid on call duties to get an angry response from him to fire him.
This guy did jobs nobody they’ve hired since have been willing to do. They have to hire private contractors to do some tasks at a much higher hourly rate. He had started with the city over 30 years before…..and they trapped him to get a reason to fire him. I understand your concern with the cameras but damn, realizing the world already has your biometric data, I would probably just deal with it if you otherwise like your job
I'm not a perfect employee but nobody is. I operate equipment in a safe manner. I don't operate all of it given my division, but I could if they asked me to.
I don't trust my employer with my biometrics so I'm looking at this as practice for the real thing. If you are a believer in the Bible, we are called to stop participating at some point. If you're not, you will reap benefits in the short term. It won't last long but it won't be a good time for believers and dissenters.

We had the notorious stagflation of the 70’s and post Nixon the left took over the entire government. We tremendously expanded government spending and entitlements over the past 50 years. I would have to see the details of that graph as far as how they’re determining productivity and wages. Larger corporations. Elimination of mom and pop grocery stores etc probably all played a role. Walmart etc. I’m sure it’s way more complicated than I could explain. Sounds like 2 hours of Econ lectures to me.
This is the pain of it all - losing the time off. Depending on jobs it can be negotiated - if not you are giving up a month of time to be paid to do nothing. That stings.
Is there a calculation making the wages turn into “buying power” or something of the like? There is no way hourly wages have only gone up 16% from 1972. They’ve done that just in the past 4-5 years if it was straight dollars.
I could get the buying power aspect - technology has moved so fast that it’s allowed for amazing convenience at an affordable price.
My argument for the past 4 years with all the giveaways was that inflation is AWFUL for workers. Wages have NEVER kept up with inflation. The working class and retirees ALWAYS get screwed the worst by inflation. F'n idiots in DC.

It does seem out of sorts. If the time to build a house has gone down it would seem labor costs should also decrease.
