Nothing an athlete does falls under the purview of being an employee imo. I conducted research at the University and was given grant funding, even had relatively standard, full time hours, and yet I was never considered an employee of the university. Student-athletes have even less of a case.

They start getting paid out of the $20 million fund, you have to call them employees. I really think, that eventually you could have college athletes that never leave college. They will have benefits packages to include pensions or 401k… all the bells and whistles. Why retire until you have to, you can take classes til you die.

Some of you folks should really pay attention to what’s going on across the landscape of college football and not just Nebraska. There are guys from Oregon already hitting the portal and they might play for a national title. Guess all locker rooms have an issue, eh picklerick?

Yeah problem with a lot of these things is that a lot of fans only keep up with THEIR teams. This isn't just a Nebraska thing. This is a college football thing. It's about to be the new normal. Get used to it fellas...

I still fail to see how they are workers that would fall under labor or anti-trust laws. They're representatives of an athletic team under purview of a university, and that's all they are. They never were laborers that would fall under these laws. What's next, high school athletes? Junior high? Peewee league? Where does it stop?

Now you're getting it. I said years ago, it won't be the players that ef up college football, it will be the greedy parents of peewee league, Jr high and high school athletes. Just waiting.

I’m amused by some of the proposed solutions such as 2 year contracts. My belief is that a 2 or 3 year contract wouldn’t change anything unless Congress granted the NCAA similar standing as the NFL has. I can hire a professional to a contract and there’s nothing to keep them from going across the street to my competitor. No compete clauses usually get defeated in court in my experience. Labor law differs from some other contracts right?

I think CEO Rhule relies heavily on position coaches, position coaches are really close to their players...nearly all position coaches are either leaving, fired, or considering promotions. So the players feel lost being at a program where their closest relationships are in flux, so they might follow their position guys or just try a warmer, better, or more lucrative situation. As far as I can tell there haven't been many oline entries...oline coach is safe in his position. Coach turnover causes a lot of players to leave.

The courts are run by imbeciles. How is research not considered employment, but a student-athlete with an irregular schedule throughout the year is? Literally makes zero sense.

55% of portal entries NEVER find another team to play for. Not counting guys who moves down to D2. Of the 45% that find homes. 20% are starter level at new team. If you remove guys with less than 3 years of experience at the school they are leaving the numbers plummet from there. These kids are rolling the dice with their futures.

At one point the coaches yielded way too much power imo. NOW however it's the players who have that power.

When these kids enter the portal voluntarily I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for what happens. Get left in the cold? Oh well too bad. For those that get pushed on... casualty of the new rules.

It's ugly but it's what they wanted.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not entirely sure if it's that Nebraska has been bad for so dang long or it's the new xfer rules but my give a dang level has definitely been taking a hit lately. I've missed several games this year only checking the score and looking at the highlights. How can you get excited about certain players growing and excelling anymore? Definitely feels more like the soulless NFL to me than the rich college homey feel.

With DH coming in that sparked more interest...right before TW left......along with a bevy of defensive xfers. It's like damn, a Husker fan can't be excited for the next year.

Maybe there’s a grant opportunity to research the insanity that is college sports. I actually would recommend the study of the influence gambling has on everything that is going on. I think that the people who control the gambling are greasing the way to make things work the way they are. Every nuance every change creates a betting opportunity. Those cats running gambling have been exploiting people since time began and keep improving their profit line.
