Until player multi-year contracts are added to this pro-football-lite mess, it’s probably wise to go into the portal as a free agent every year to negotiate more dough. Without player contracts desirable players have all of the power. Of course they better research the reliability of the offers they get.
It has to be a ploy to get more NIL at NU. He’s our best back, but what’s that really saying. Is he really a clear cut rb1 that can’t be replaced?
Player contracts are coming and they can’t come too soon. Until then, it’s free agency every year.
This is the kind of thing thats going to make college football less and less interesting to follow and get to know a team.
In years past you could be excited about players coming back or watch promising freshmen develop over the years, and now its all scattered and wont feel like the same team year to year, like its a whole new program.
I get that we suck and we want to flip the roster, but this guy is an example of one we wanted to see take off next year.

I have no idea but I wonder if our coaches are worried about having too many mouths to feed. We need a bell cow.

Let's hope that Mekhi Nelson can fill his shoes. He should get opportunities in the bowl game.

Nebraska will definitely have extra scholarships to use for portal players.
It might not have anything to do with the coaches, he might have other reasons to leave, maybe he wants more money or a better running back coach
These are the types of situations that are going to build and over time begin to turn fans off from the sport. All of this has me shaking my head and questioning things.
I agree but I bet this is NIL related. I would suspect that he has been contacted with a deal in place. He will announce his new team very shortly after the portal officially opens.
Wonder which team will be the first one to have every single returning player on the roster hit the portal.
Better use him in year one or there is a high probability he will leave as well…welcome to college football in 2024.
No reason that I could see (don't see practices) that he shouldn't of been #1 all season. Again, I go back to prior to our first game, HCMR kept implying Rahmir and Emmett were 1/2, leading all the way up through game week. Then gameday, it was Dowdell. Very ?? Then it was Dowdell/Rahmir with Emmett getting 3rd string reps for the first half of the season.
Probably said, F it, don't want to go through this again. What's going to change, same RB coach, same HC, I'll take my chances elsewhere.
