Right. Coaches knowing that they won't get 2 years sounds like a winning approach.
It’s a ******** utter failure. We just got whipped by a 2-5 team. Terrible on every level.

What are you seeing? 2 years with some improvement is one thing. We ain’t that. If you think so, you’re part of the problem.

If Nebraska was a good team like Bama, losing to a 2-5 team would be a huge cause for concern. This doesn't even move the needle.

But when does it end? Multiple years of out recruiting everyone in the conference besides OSU, Michigan, and PSU and this is the product? It makes no sense when programs with less accomplish so much more.

Or, he thought they were good hires.

Happens all the time in business anyway. Not sure why college football would be any different.
So Rhule didn't vet his coaches. Satt has had zero success at South Carolina. And the kid WR coach has shown he is a good hire by cutting his teeth at Nebraska? Then just proves Rhule is a failure.

Lets start with Satt. Rhule needs to fire him over the bye week. If we don't make a bowl game he deserves to be fired. This loss feels like last years loss to MSU to get us bowl eligible. We'll have a good effort in a loss vs usc than close losses to ia and wi to end the season.

I've already explained my thoughts. You asking the exact same question isn't going to somehow change my answer.

I'm sure he did vet his coaches in some fashion and made a poor decision. Hopefully he'll make some changes, but he won't do that halfway through Year 2.

I'd rather, 1) See what happens with the remainder of this season and 2) give a guy more than 2 years to turn things around. Regardless of how ugly the first 2 years are.
I think it’s crazy to talk about firing Rhule already, but confidence in him has plummeted since Indiana. More worrisome: He doesn’t seem to have any answers.

“He doesn’t seem to have any answers” makes the fire Matt Rhule talk not so crazy.

As I've said before, the one constant throughout all those coaches is the type of players we have had - not very athletic and slow. The only exceptions were a couple of years on defense with Callahan recruits. The only way that Nebraska will improve significantly in my opinion is to bring in better players, which should be easier now with the portal. But Rhule wants to build with high school recruits. I just don't think he will recruit well enough to succeed that way.

They should know that in 2 years if you have 0 progress you’re done. I’d tell them that right as they walk in the door. If that means we don’t attract pay check chasers, then even better

Yes I believe that. I now think Rhule is a lousy coach.
Thanks buddy.

If you could take a coach right now, whom would you take?

For me, I'm still in the Urban Meyer crowd.

I'd still love to have a beer or a shot of whiskey with you someday. Respect the hell out of you.

The irony. Plenty of people in business don’t even get two years before they are fired for incompetence. But you seem to think football is different from business there. but when it comes to excuses for Matt’s nepotistic hires, when it’s convenient, you act like it’s just like any business.

Sort of talking out of both ends there. More time isn’t going to help a coach with 81 losses in 149 games. Especially one that hasn’t shown he can change. Hence, he keeps the same people around that have been on his journey to 81 losses. 81 losses!!!! We shouldn’t be talking about this. This is crazy

I dont see how that approach would deter the pay check chasers?

AD to coach: We'll pay you **** ton of money, but if there's 0 progress 1.5 seasons then we're going to have to fire you.

Pay-Check-Chaser coach: Okay.

PCC coach does crappy, but still got paid.

AD tells the same thing to a non-PCC coach and that coach is thinking, "Why should I bust my *** to turn this mess around if I'm only going to be given 1.5 years?" I'll go to a place that will pay just as much, but give me the time to do what I need to do."

Some coaches have a knack for flipping things on a dime. We've also seen these quick turn around not last and coach is gone within 4-5 years anyway. We've seen coaches take longer and have more stability long term. Yes, we've also seem quick turnarounds with sustained success, but that's been pretty rare.

Since #3 is rare, I'd rather have a slower turnaround time with greater long term success. I could be way wrong, but to me, that's where we're at now.

No you don't, that's such loser mentality bullsvt. Indiana didn't. Horseshvt.
It's not a loser mentality, many times it's a reality.

Good luck giving anyone in a high level position like being head coach of a power 5 program only 1.5 years to turn things around.

Remember Kevin Sumlin at Texas A&M? Turned things around right away. Since then, 10 seasons later, A&M is still trying to figure it out.

We'll see how Cignetti does long term.

You’ve never negotiated a hire, have you?

No offense.

However, our old AD did a very poor job with Rhule’s negotiation

None taken because I don't care. I've hired quite often in my past 16 years of business.

Fortunately I've been able to grab some really talented people. I doubt they would have hopped aboard if I only gave them 1.5 years to succeed.

Lol, nepotistic hires happen all the time in business. Like, a lot.

If you're going to be completely ignorant on those 81 losses without including any context, I have no interest engaging with you any further.

Frost's teams were so bad and gave up in Q1.

You want Frost back? Rhule's teams actually mostly adjust and tighten up in the 2nd half.
What I’m saying is frost teams typical were really bad then got better throughout the season. Rhule’s teams do best at beginning of year then decline. Rhule is what 0-7 when bowl eligibility is on the line.

Both equally suck so far.. just a few nuances between their suckages

Depended on their activities. If they were doing all the right things (marketing, making the calls, networking, running appointments, putting in the extra time efficiently, etc), but the results just weren't showing yet, I knew it would be just a matter of time before results would start rolling in.

Sometimes it was out of their control (really tough market), but if I felt their day-to-day / week-to-week work was where it needed to be, then I knew their results would eventually come to fruition. And once things started to fall in place, man they were crushing it.

There are people here who believe this staff to be among the hardest working in NU history

I'd like to think they are. Maybe that stems from the rumors that Frost didn't work hard.

I doubt anyone truly knows.

The difference here is they paid him a lot of money to get results (I’d imagine). Like paid him top coach in the conf money. We are at the bottom of the conference. Again.

Nothing has changed. Rhule is no better than Frost/Riley. Obviously we can’t fire him now so looks like another 4 year coaching stint with losing seasons.
Yep. Sucks to be in the limbo again with a lame duck coach but here we are.

Everyone knew, and knows for sure now, that rhule is never going to take us back to the promised land. So why wait? But you can't fire him I get it.
